The 4 year Assemblyman remains on the ballot for Tuesday’s primary. A Republican party official said it’s too late to remove Nojay’s name from the ballot for the seat representing parts of three counties in the greater Rochester and Finger Lakes areas.
A staunch supporter of GOP candidate Donald Trump, the Conservative Republican was one of those who tried to get Trump to run for governor of New York in 2014. He was a notably vocal opponent of Gov. Cuomo’s gun control law known as the SAFE Act.
He organized an ill-fated event against the law called “Freedompalooza”, which attracted few attendees.
A small-business owner and host of a regional radio show host faced a primary Tuesday against Honeoye Falls Mayor Richard Milne. Thee father of three lived in near Rochester with his wife, Debra. His last radio show was Thursday.
Bill Nojay served as an election monitor with the International Republican Institute in Ukraine and Afghanistan. And he was a director and secretary/treasurer of the Foundation for Democracy in Iran.
