<p>After talking about getting rid of his wife, Loyd Sabastian DeJohn murdered her in a horrendous fashion inside their home in May 2014. He then proceeded to<span id="ext-gen131"> have sex with his first cousin, multiple times while the woman&#8217;s dead body was stashed upstairs in a closet. The 25-year-old cousin went on to have a baby by him, later.<br />

Loyd Sabastian DeJohn, 48, appeared in Macomb County Circuit Court in Michigan on Thursday for the beginning of his murder trial with <span id="ext-gen131">Assistant Macomb County Prosecutor William Cataldo, testifying in Court that Kimberly’s death was a “cold-blooded” act and called for a conviction of first-degree, premeditated murder due to the defendant&#8217;s actions before, during and after the slaying. </span><br />
Cataldo gave the court a catalogue of Loyd&#8217;s brutal assault on his wife &#8211; He beat her to unconsciousness and put her in a closet, where she “bled out” from the head wounds. He then was strangled with a ligature.</p>

<h6><strong>Kimberly DeJohn: Bludgeoned unconscious, stabbed and strangled to death by her husband</strong></h6>
<p>Autopsy revealed Kimberly DeJohn suffered four blunt-force trauma to her head, stab wounds to her abdomen and thigh, two blows to her back and 10 defensive wounds on her body. After her death, DeJohn kept her body in the upstairs closet for two days before the odour prompted him to move it into the bed of his pickup truck, covering her with dirt, Cataldo said.<br />
“He drove around work and Warren with a dead wife in the back” of his truck before burying her in Tuscarora Township in Cheboygan County, near his grandmother’s residence. Police found Kimberly&#8217;s remains on June 17.<br />
Loyd DeJohn has denied the prosecution stand that his wife&#8217;s death was premeditated, at one point he claimed the incident occurred during a fight over Kimberly breaking one of his collectible items.<br />

However, the prosecutor said: “We’re going to show the violence is very beyond somebody pissed because ‘they broke my collectible’”.<br />
The defendant was arrested May 30, 2014, for aggravated domestic violence, was later charged with murder and disinterment of a corpse.<br />
According to the court filings, DeJohn shortly before his wife’s death started having an affair with his half-cousin Angelica Gonzalez. The then 25-year-old moved into his home two days after the murder. They had sex downstairs while Kimberly DeJohn’s body was kept in a closet, upstairs.</p>

<p>Before his wife’s death, DeJohn, who had cheated on his wife previously, on several occasions admitted to a co-worker, a friend, a relative and an acquaintance that he wanted her gone. The defendant made the remarks before he started the affair with Gonzalez.<br />
Cataldo told the court “He wanted her dead. He could bury her anywhere”.</p>

<p>Among the statements tendered by the prosecution was one where DeJohn told a co-worker Stephen James Raymond, he could hire a hitman or have someone would take his truck as long as his wife was in it, take her to a hog farm in the South and “feed her to the hogs” so there would be no trace of her.<br />
The prosecution pointed to the fact that Loyd DeJohn never contacted police after his wife’s death but instead hid her body.<br />
DeJohn has giving several, conflicting accounts of how his wife died during the altercation.<br />
He told one of his wife’s daughters, Jennifer Outman, that her mother was alive and had been transported by ambulance to a hospital for a mental evaluation. The missing woman&#8217;s sister, Brenda Ernst, filed a missing person report on May 28, 2014. Ernst said she sent a text message to her sister’s cellphone, asking her to call. The return text read: “I’m fine, I just want to be left alone,” but when she dialled Kimberly’s number, no one answered.</p>

<p>Defence attorney, Mark Nortley, admitted his client is a “strange bird,” who owns a hearse and a casket. He is also a member of a hearse club. However, he said, his client had neither motive nor intent to kill his wife of 11 years.<br />
“It was a dispute that went horribly out of control,” Nortley told jurors.<br />
“My client is bizarre, to say the least, that’s why he said some of the things he did. He panicked. He did not trust authorities to treat him fairly.”</p>

Pointing out that there was no life insurance policy to cash in, Nortley said “He had nothing to gain by killing her”.<br />
His attorney said the defendant’s actions following the slaying show he didn’t premeditate it. “He lied. He tried to cover things up,” he said. “The complete mess of the cover-up showed he had no plan.”<br />
In addition to first-degree murder, punishable by life in prison without parole, the jury likely also will be able to consider second-degree murder, which carries a maximum penalty of life and a chance for parole, and manslaughter, punishable by up to 15 years behind bars.<br />
Gonzalez who says she was unaware if her sister-in-law&#8217;s death, at the time, is testifying at the trial.</p>
