A Massachusetts police officer’s wife faked a robbery, vandalized her own home and blamed the alleged crimes on Black Lives Matter activists, officials said.
CBS Boston reports that Maria Daly faces charges of filing a false police report and misleading a police investigation for the fake burglary she staged earlier in the month.
Daly, who is married to an officer on the Millbury police force, claimed in an Oct. 17 police report that robbers busted into her home and stole jewelry and cash in the middle of the night.
In a report of a break-in filed on Monday, Maria Daly told police that jewelry estimated to be worth $10,000 was stolen from the home and the burglars scrawled “BLM,” shorthand for Black Lives Matter, on the side of the house before making off with about $10,000 worth of stolen property.  cops-wife-faked-robbery-vandalized-own-home-and-blamed-black-lives-matter2

Contrary to the report she filed Millbury police said  there is no evidence that anyone broke into Daly’s home and all property reported stolen have been recovered

“We woke up to not only our house being robbed while we were sleeping but to see this hatred for no reason,” she wrote on Facebook after filing a report of the home invasion with police.
In her post she wrote: “If you would have asked me yesterday about this blue lives and black lives matter issue my response would have been very positive. Today on the other hand I have so much anger and hate that I don’t like myself.”
But officials grew suspicious when details in the investigation didn’t add up.Screenshot from 2016-10-29 17-31-54.png

Daly posted notice of the burglary on Facebook home

According to Millbury Police Chief Donald Desorcy, investigators have determined the entire account was false.  “Something wasn’t quite right,” Millbury Police Chief Donald Desorcy told the TV station.
“I think that was pretty obvious and as a result of that investigation, the officers did their due diligence and followed through with the investigation that we had.”
“Basically we came to the conclusion that it was all fabricated,” said Desorcy. “There was no intruder, there was no burglary.”
Chief Desorcy says Daly’s husband, Officer Daniel Daly, was not involved in the deception and has been exonerated.
Commenting further on the story  which is generating a lot of reaction among residents, Desorcy said
“She must have tagged the place herself,” one neighbor said. “I don’t know why you’d do that, if you’re gonna stage a robbery, I mean really come on, you’re a cop’s wife. You should know better.”
Expressing his opinion to the Worcester Telegram, Desorcy said, Maria Daly likely was motivated by her family’s financial problems.
