22-year-old Crystal Herrera and her boyfriend Isaac Andrew Cardenas, 23, sexually brutalized infant girl and blamed it on a dog

Investigators and medical personnel examining the baby, realized her injuries were not consistent with the canine attack described by Herrera

Herrera was determined to have been providing false information to prevent cops finding out what occurred, she was charged with injury to a child

Cardenas was charged with super aggravated sexual assault of a child, faces a minimum 20-year in jail

Bond set for Cardenas at $300,000

Crystal Herrera and her boyfriend inflicted horrendous injuries on her 1-year-old female relative

Authorities arrested a Texas woman and her boyfriend for sexually assaulting a 1-year-old girl in what they’ve called “one of the worst cases they’ve ever seen.”
22-year-old Crystal Herrera called emergency services on on New Year’s Eve and told law enforcement officials the 1-year-old child managed to leave the house in the middle of the night and was attacked by dogs..
However, when investigators and medical personnel examined the baby, they realized her injuries were not consistent with the canine attack described by her relative, Herrera.
Authorities determined that Herrera had been providing false information to keep detectives from finding out what occurred.

Isaac Andrew Cardenas: charged with super aggravated sexual assault of a child 

County Sheriff Javier Salazar in a press conference said the young girl was found with life-threatening wounds consistent with “brutal” sexual assault as well as multiple stab wounds.
“I can’t even begin to describe to you the level of depravity that went into this crime,”Sheriff Salazar said. “It’s a horrendous case.”
“This is one of those cases, I’ll be honest with you, it’s something that I haven’t even seen the pictures, I don’t want to see the pictures,” Salazar said during the news conference. “It’s been described to me and just imagining it is enough to chill any of us.”

Following the incident the toddler was taken to University Hospital where she was in stable condition Wednesday, the Express-News reported.
Detectives are additionally looking into any history of abuse of the girl, who was taken into the custody of Child Protective Services.
“A child this small to suffer these types of injuries, she’s going to carry this with her for the rest of her life, physically, emotionally, and also as a family,” Salazar said. “It’s a heartbreaking case.”
Crystal Herrera was charged with injury to a child while her boyfriend Isaac Andrew Cardenas, 23, was charged with super aggravated sexual assault of a child,  a capital felony with a minimum 20-year sentence. His bond was set at $300,000.
