<p>An Orlando, Fla., police officer was fatally shot outside of a Walmart store Monday, and a manhunt for the shooter is underway, according to authorities and local media reports.<br />
The shooting occurred after 7:15 a.m. <a href="http://www.fox35orlando.com/news/227995742-story" target="_blank">near a Walmart store</a> in Pine Hills, which is located west of Orlando. A second officer was killed in a crash while p and deputies scrambled to find him<br />
The first casualty was Master Sgt. Debra Clayton, a mother of two and 17-year veteran of the Orlando police department, who was shot and killed on Princeton Street as she tried to detain the fugitive.<br />
A few hours later, an Orange County motorcycle deputy who was part of the effort to capture the suspect, was involved in a fatal crash.</p>

<p>The Orange County Sheriff&#8217;s Office identified Markeith Loyd, 41, <a href="https://twitter.com/OrangeCoSheriff/status/818463681298186241/photo/1" target="_blank">as the shooting suspect</a>. Loyd is wanted in connection with the December killing of his pregnant ex-girlfriend.<br />
Loyd allegely, shot Sade Dixon his 24-year-old pregnant ex on the night of December 13 outside her home in Orange County, Florida.<br />
The mother of two was shot and killed by her ex-boyfriend, with her kids in the home, the victim&#8217;s brother, Ronald Steward, 26, was also shot and critically injured while coming to her rescue.<br />
Monday morning, Loyd was seen fleeing the shooting scene, after he fired at a deputy who was not injured. He then carjacked a vehicle before running off, the sheriff&#8217;s office said in a statement.</p>

<p>A witness to the incident said Loyd rwas wearing a security uniform when he shot the officer: [The gunman] was an average looking dude, he walked by me, had a security vest and everything,&#8221; witness James Herma n told <a href="http://www.wftv.com/news/local/opd-officer-shot-9-times-outside-walmart-in-pine-hills-area-witness-says/482670290" target="_blank">ABC affiliate WFTV</a>.<br />
&#8220;I was walking down the sidewalk, right past the officer, and I heard her tell him to stop, or whatever, and he shot her. He shot her down.&#8221;</p>

<p>The <a href="http://www.orlandosentinel.com/news/breaking-news/os-shooting-princeton-street-20170109-story.html" target="_blank">Orlando Sentinel</a> reported that officers and sheriff’s deputies escorted the ambulance to the hospital, while traffic in the area was diverted and area schools were placed on lockdown following the shooting.</p>

<strong>The police department announced after 10 a.m. that the officer had died</strong></h6>
<p>Florida Department of Law Enforcement records show that Loyd has multiple convictions, including one for first-degree battery and another for open carrying of weapons.<br />
The suspect was arrested in a drug-related shooting in 1996, but first-degree murder charges were dropped after a key witness changed their story.<br />
He spent served years in a state prison for battery on a law enforcement officer before being released in 2002.<br />
In 2011, he was sentenced to 27 months in prison for possessing two ice pick-like homemade weapons while in federal custody. He’s also faced weapons, aggravated battery, trespassing and drug charges, according to the records.</p>
