A South Carolina teen and her mother face murder charges after the girl’s newborn baby was discovered in a trash bag at a restaurant.
Estela Ruiz-Gomez gave birth to a baby boy on July 12 in the bathroom of the La Parrilla Mexican Restaurant in Greenville, Greenville police said.
Employees told authorities that Ruiz-Gomez, 19, works at the restaurant and had been complaining of stomach pains.
During her break, the teen went into the bathroom. When she didn’t come out, a manager at the restaurant sent her mother, Lorenza Gomez Rodriguez, a dishwasher at La Parrilla,  to check on her.

Estela’s mother, Lorenza Gomez Rodriguez, is also charged with murder after she helped her teen daughter to dispose of her newborn grandchild, alive, in a restaurant thrash bin. The baby died hours after it was rescued

The manager said after exiting the bathroom Rodriguez said she needed to take her daughter to the hospital.
A short time later, a female employee went to the men’s and women’s restrooms to dump the trash.
The worker said the garbage bag was heavier than usual and as she was dragging it across the ground to the dumpster, it tore and the newborn fell out.
Ruiz-Gomez’s boyfriend, who also works at the restaurant, retrieved the baby boy and brought him back inside as someone called police.
Responding officers were told a newborn was in cardiac arrest. Upon arrival, the baby’s mother and grandmother, the mother’s boyfriend and at least two employees advised that the mother had just given birth in the bathroom.
EMS advised at the scene that the baby had a heartbeat and rushed him to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead a short time later. The autopsy report from the medical examiner found no medical reason why the child died after birth. The medical examiner also noted that dirt and gravel were found on the baby’s body, and relayed this information to the coroner.
Ruiz-Gomez was arrested and charged Tuesday with homicide by child neglect.
Her mother, who has an active warrant for not leaving the country last year, was charged with aiding and abetting homicide by neglect.
