<article id="ra-body">A heartless New York motorist left his passenger to die after he crashed on the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway and his car burst into flames, in the early hours of Friday, police sources said.<br />
Saeed Ahmad allegedly, was weaving in and out of traffic on the westbound side of the expressway when his 2007 Infiniti G35 hit the median in the left lane. and the car spun out of control about 4 a.m., witnesses told police. The car came to rest facing against traffic in the center lane.<br />
As flames consumed the inside of the car, Ahmad jumped out and ran off, leaving behind his trapped friend, later identified as 25-year-old Harleen Grewal of Astoria, Queens, to perish in the blaze.<br />
Firefighters putting out the fire found Grewal’s charred body in the front passenger seat.<br />
The 23-year-old driver, identified as Saeed Ahmad of East 55th Street, Brooklyn, was seen fleeing the scene leaving Grewel in the vehicle. Witnesses saw him flag down a taxi near the scene of the crash, headed to Maimonides Medical Center, police sources said. Police located the him at the nearby hospital with burns to his hands and feet. He was taken into custody and charged with manslaughter, criminally negligent homicide, leaving the scene of an accident, aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle and speeding.<br />
His arraignment was pending in Brooklyn Criminal Court Friday.<br />
Ahmad, who lives in Flatlands admitted to having a few drinks before the crash but was not legally drunk when his blood was tested at the hospital, police sources said.</p>

<p>Ahmad’s relatives said he tried to save Grewal, but couldn’t.<br />
“He said the girl that was in the car was stuck in there and he tried to get her out, that’s why his arms were burned,” said Saeed’s brother Waheed Ahmad. “He couldn&#8217;t&#8230;it was too late for her.”<br />
Grewal worked for a catering company. She often had friends help her out at events, her family said.<br />
Sometimes she took the train home; sometimes family would pick her up; and other times people she was working with would drop her off at home, relatives said.<br />
The family said it was normal for her to work late.</p>
