Steven Paulino, 27, was in the intensive care unit at St. Barnabas Hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries Tuesday — and his mother claimed he suffered nothing worse than a broken wrist.

An armed Bronx man ended up in the hospital after he fell three stories during an action-movie style try at escaping police.

Steven Paulino, 27, was in the intensive care unit at St. Barnabas Hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries Tuesday — and his mother claimed he suffered nothing worse than a broken wrist.

Police encountered Paulino around 8 a.m. Saturday when they responded to a 911 call about a dispute on Sedgwick Ave. in Kingsbridge. There officers found Paulino harassing a woman, said law enforcement sources.

Paulino made a run for it, firing a shot in the air as he fled, cops said.

He then tossed his gun from his waistband, headed into a two-story building on Webb Ave., and made his way to the roof.

Paulino ran across the roof, paused briefly at its edge, and then jumped for a fire escape on the building next door.

For a split second as he sailed through the air, he looked as if he was wearing a superhero’s cape.

He made it across to the fire escape — but he couldn’t hold on, the video shows.

Instead, he bounced off, and fell to the alley below. Paulino hit the ground with a thud, and he was soon surrounded by police officers. Medics rushed him to the hospital.

“He only broke his wrist. It’s a miracle that he’s alive,” said his mother, who spoke on condition of anonymity. Paulino is on painkillers, drifting in and out of consciousness, she said.

Paulino has a girlfriend and two daughters, his mother said.

Of the woman he allegedly harassed on the street, Paulino’s mother said: “I don’t know this woman. She is not his girlfriend.”

“He got scared, and he ran,” the mother said. “When he tried to grab the fire escape, that’s when he broke he wrist. Thank God. God has given him another chance to live a good life.”

Police found a firearm in the area after the chase, still Paulino’s mother dsputes that her 27-year-ol son could possibly be packing a firearm.

“He doesn’t have any gun that I know of. If he had a gun, the police would have arrested him,” she said.

“I’ve never seen him with a gun. They have to prove whatever they have to say,” his mom said.

Paulino is charged with assault, criminal possession of a weapon, reckless endangerment and other counts.
