While they await positive identification cops said  foul play was “definitely involved ”

Diana Keel recently met with a divorce attorney and planned to divorce her husband – She’d wanted to separate from her husband years ago: “but couldn’t because he threatened her,” according to her mother

Lynn Keel’s previous wife, Elizabeth Bess Edwards Keel, died at their home in 2006, her death was ruled accidental

The husband of a missing North Carolina nurse has been named a person of interest in connection with the case, as authorities work to identify a body found during the investigation.
Diana Keel, 38, was first reported missing by her 18-year-old daughter on Saturday as reported by WTVD.
In a statement Monday, the Nash County Sheriff’s Office said officers were dispatched to her home Saturday after she had been reported missing.


Keel’s employer told police she had not reported to work in the last few days, and her husband, Lynn Keel, told police he last saw his wife Friday.

The case took a turn after a body was discovered Tuesday by a North Carolina Department of Transportation employee in the woods near Edgecombe County, suspected to be the missing woman.
Police said when the decaying body was found, foul play was “definitely” involved, ABC reported.
The Nash County Sheriff’s Office released a statement Wednesday saying tissue samples, bloodwork and fingerprints were obtained, but at this point “there is no positive identification” of the body.
Lynn Keel was named a person of interest in the case and taken into the sheriff’s office for questioning, but he was released Wednesday, WTVD reported.

Nash County Sheriff Keith Stone said at a news conference Diana and her husband had a “domestic issue” around a year ago, but no more recent incidents were known.
Diana’s mother, Esperanza Prada told WTVD that Keel wanted to separate from her husband years ago, “but she couldn’t because he threatened her.”
Prada said that Keel had met with a divorce attorney and planned to divorce her husband.

The missing woman’s older child is away in college, while the 10-year-old son the couple share is was staying with his grandmother as his dad met with investigators Tuesday, officials said.
Lynn Keel’s previous wife, Elizabeth Bess Edwards Keel, died at their home 13 years ago. In January of 2006,  Elizabeth Keel, died at the same home. At the time, the medical examiner declared the death accidental, based on the blunt trauma to the head. The sheriff’s office said it was reported that Elizabeth fell and struck her forehead on the corner of the front concrete steps.
