Seven people have been shot during a cookout close to a Maryland church.
The shooting occurred on the same block as the Perkins Square Baptist Church in Baltimore at about 5.30pm on Sunday.
Police said one person had died but it is not yet clear the extent of the other injuries, CBS reports.
First responders found the victims on the 2500 block of Edmondson Avenue outside Buster’s Place Barber Shop where the cookout had been set up.
Witnesses said the gunman was in a car that pulled up alongside the cookout and opened fire.
Police have closed down the block surrounding the barber shop and the church.
Officials said a so-far-unidentified gunman opened fire, shooting indiscriminately, at a cookout at the intersection of Edmondson and Whitmore avenues.
One person was found dead near Perkins Square Baptist Church. The remaining six victims were taken to area hospitals for treatment. The victims’ conditions were not immediately known.
Baltimore Police Commissioner Michael Harrison appealed to the public to help track down the shooter[s]
Police say one of the seven victims ran to the back of the nearby Perkins Square Baptist Church and collapsed. He was pronounced deceased at an area hospital.
Police say they’re only looking for one suspect at this time, but there may have been a second shooter possibly returning fire at the suspect.
Harrison said it’s going to take a community effort to track the shooter down.
“What we need now is for the people to have the same resilience and the same tenacity to go after him like he came after the people here today,” said Harrison.
