A family friend revealed that the shooter’s dad Carlos Zaragoza, had confided in him that his son [Gerry], was battling drug problems.
‘The older Zaragoza often tried to get his son to come to work with him but, Gerry seemed to have no motivation,’ the friend said

Police in Los Angeles, California have arrested a suspect following a shooting rampage in Los Angeles that left four members of his family dead and two others injured.

He was taken into custody by Los Angeles Police Department officers on Thursday afternoon.Gerry Dean Zaragoza is suspected of killing two members of his family and wounding his mother at an apartment complex and is also accused of shooting two people at a gas station, killing a woman and critically wounding a man.
They launched the intense manhunt for 26-year-old Zaragoza after he allegedly shot his parents and brother in his family’s apartment in Canoga Park just before 2am on Thursday.
His father and brother died, while his mother was left injured and remains in hospital in a stable condition.
Zaragoza reportedly, then started shooting again at a gas station in North Hollywood, about 45 minutes later.

Authorities said they received reports at about 7.45am that a man matching Zaragoza’s description had tried to rob a man outside a Bank of America in Canoga Park.
According to CBS reports Los Angeles Metro riders exiting a bus in the Van Nuys area heard gunshots and then discovered a victim on the bus who was dead.
A witness said a male shooter walked onto the bus and shot another man in the head – “He didn’t do anything. He was just sitting on the bus,” one witness said about the victim.
A suspect fitting Zaragoza’s description was seen fleeing the scene in a dark-colored Jeep Liberty SUV with paper license plates. He was arrested almost two hours later in the San Fernando Valley, near Los Angeles. After his arrest, police said he was connected to three other homicides, including the 2 a.m. killing of his father and brother and the fatal shooting of his suspected ex-girlfriend hours later in North Hollywood. A male gas station employee who was also shot survived while the woman died later in hospital.
A family member told KCBS-TV that Zaragoza once dated the woman and that he became obsessed with her after she broke off the relationship.

After shooting up his family home, Zaragoza soon after is accused of then opening fire at a gas station in North Hollywood, killing his ex-girlfriend and critically injuring a man. He put up what was described as a small amount of resistance in his arrest and police used a Taser to subdue him.
He was transported from the scene in an ambulance.
He was later booked on multiple felony charges and was being held without bail.
Police recovered a gun believed to be similar to the one used in the shooting, but it has yet to be definitively linked with the crimes.
Investigators tracked him down with the help of cellphone tracking technology as well as tips from family members who said he might frequent that location.
Investigators have not revealed a potential motive in the shootings.

Michael Ramia said Zaragoza’s father, Carlos Zaragoza, had worked for him for 12 years as a carpet cleaning technician. He described the elder Zaragoza as ‘a guy with no enemies, very outgoing.’ ‘The nicest guy you’d want to be around,’ he said. Ramia said Carlos Zaragoza had confided in him that his son was battling drug problems, adding that the older man often tried to get his son to come to work with him but he seemed to have no motivation. ‘He was a father just trying to protect his son,’ Ramia said. ‘He did it to his last day. He wouldn’t give up on his son.’ Neighbors described Zaragoza’s mother was always friendly: ‘Really hurt, about what happened,’Ruth Barcena told CBS. He was arrested in a commercial section of Canoga Park about 12 hours after the rampage began, and charged with multiple felonies.
