The mother of a Tennessee toddler who vanished in December – but was only reported missing to authorities last week – has been charged with lying to the police.

Megan “Maggie” Boswell was taken into custody Tuesday evening on one count of false reporting and is being held at Sullivan County Jail on $25,000 bail. Her arrest comes as authorities continue to search for her 15-month-old daughter, Evelyn Mae Boswell, who remained missing late Wednesday morning.
“During the course of the investigation, Megan ‘Maggie’ Boswell provided detectives and agents with a number of conflicting statements,” the Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release.
“Further investigation revealed that some of the information provided by Megan Boswell was false.”
Authorities have previously said that Bowell gave “inaccurate” information about her daughter’s whereabouts to detectives, citing other witness testimony and surveillance video.

Evelyn was last seen sometime in December, according to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, but she was not officially reported missing until Feb. 19 – weeks after she first disappeared. What’s more, it wasn’t even the toddler’s 18-year-old mother who initially reached out to authorities.
Police first learned that Evelyn was missing from her grandfather, who said he had not seen her since the holidays.
Boswell previously claimed her mother, Angela Boswell, took her missing child.
“I told them where to find her in Mendota,” she told news station WJHL on Monday.
“My mom took her to a campground in a silver camper. If they don’t go tonight, I’m going to find her myself because I’ve told them and they’re not really like taking it seriously.”
Boswell added: “My mom did threaten me, like you know, if I told anybody. I’m not gonna get into that, but she did.”
Angela Boswell, 42, was arrested last week in North Carolina alongside 33-year-old William McCloud in connection with the case. They were found traveling in a gray 2007 BMW that authorities previously designated a vehicle of interest and then questioned by detectives.
The pair remained behind bars in Wilkes County without bond and will be extradited back to Tennessee to face charges unrelated to Evelyn’s disappearance.
