The sexual encounter between Shauna Bishop, a former California sheriff’s deputy who pled guilty to having sex with the 16-year-old son of her ex-boyfriend, and her victim happened in April 2019has been sentenced to a year in jail.
The incident occurred in in April 2019 shortly after Bishop, 46, a deputy with the Sacramento County sheriff’s department, ended a year-long relationship with a the boy’s father who also worked for the department. The age of consent in California is 18-years-old.
The former boyfriend, also a deputy, told his ex-wife that he was uncomfortable with the way Bishop behaved around their 16-year-old son, according to The Mercury News.
But the ex-wife had been on friendly terms with Bishop, who was invited to her home to speak to the boy about his drinking and marijuana use, according to court documents.
On April 28, 2019, Bishop was invited to spend the night at the ex-wife’s home.
After the mother fell asleep that night, Bishop went to the boy’s room and engaged in intercourse and oral sex with the juvenile, according to authorities.
Two weeks later, the teenager recounted the encounter to his 19-year-old sister, who then told their mother who then reported the matter to Folsom police.
Interviewed by investigators, Bishop claimed that she was under the influence of Ambien, a sedative used to treat insomnia. Both Bishop and the boy’s mother indeed took Ambien before going to bed that night, according to authorities.
When the investigation began in May 2019, Bishop was placed on administrative leave. Soon afterward, she resigned, and in June 2019, she was arrested.
According to the court documents Bishop and the boy’s mother became close friends after the cop and the boy’s father broke up, explaining how Bishop came to spend the night at the home the mother and son share, in late April.
Bishop arrived at 8 p.m. because she wanted to discuss the boy’s drinking and marijuana use with the teen’s mother.
By the time that session ended it was midnight and Bishop decided to spend the night, with Bishop sharing the mother’s bed, the documents say.
Both women took Ambien, and Bishop offered to help the mother the next morning by preparing the boy’s lunch for school. Instead, Bishop went to the boy’s room that night.
The teen told police, “Then [Bishop] started kissing on me. While she was kissing me, she was touching my side and I was touching her back and then her legs. Then she moved from touching my side, to my thighs, and began rubbing my penis while she was kissing me. We only made out for a second, and then I think she heard my mom coming, because she stopped.”
According to court documents, the two women left the room, only for Bishop to return about two minutes later.
“I took her shirt off, and she was kissing on me, and then she started [performing oral sex],” the boy said.
Bishop he said, got up periodically to check the bedroom door, then told him she would be back and left … and a few minutes later she came back.
“When she walked in she said, ‘I knew this was going to happen tonight.’”
Bishop performed oral sex on the boy, then asked, “Are you ready for this?” and the two had intercourse, the documents say.
Afterward, Bishop performed oral sex on him again, then left “and said something about not telling anyone,” the boy told police.
Later that day Bishop and the boy spoke by cell phone in a 69-minute conversation, where Bishop “blamed them having sex on porn.”
Court documents state that “Bishop went on to tell [the teen that] she watched stepmom/stepson related porn videos that made her [fantasize] about him,” adding that “Bishop told [the boy] she thinks about [him] while she masturbates and had wanted them to have sex for a long time. – That “She used to walk around his dad’s house naked, hoping he would walk in on her.”
on her cell phone investigators found “several pornographic web searches that revealed she viewed ‘stepmom, stepson’ related pornographic videos prior to the reported incident, and several the day after the reported incident.
“Each video she watched corresponded with the sexual acts performed by Bishop as described[by the teen] during his second interview.”
Bishop had told investigators she was “disgusted, scared and sad,” and that she had researched side effects of Ambien.
However, investigators found no such searches on her phone’s web history.
As part of a plea agreement, she agreed to plead guilty in July to unlawful sexual conduct with a minor.
In exchange, prosecutors agreed to dismiss four other charges.
In addition to jail time, Bishop will be placed on five years probation and have to perform 180 hours of community service.
She will also be required to register as a sex offender.
