The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is investigating an officer involved shooting in Washington County which left one suspect dead an d a corrections officer with non-life threatening injuries on Sunday night.
A 26-year-old man from Athens was shot and killed by a Georgia Department of Corrections officer in a fire fight on Sunday night in Washington County, according to GBI.
Two men allegedly dropping off contraband material outside a Georgia prison got into a shootout with K-9 officers, leaving one suspect dead and an officer injured.

Marquavious Rashod Parks, 26, and John Frank Snow, 51, were stopped outside the Washington State Prison in Davisboro late Sunday night during an alleged contraband drop, according to the GBI.
Officers were informed of a breach in the facility involving two individuals who they believed were there to drop off contrabrand at the facility which was described as a minimum and medium security prison located in in Davisboro.
The GBI reported that the two suspects were at the prison to drop off the contraband when they were confronted by law enforcement at 10:39 p.m.
State K-9 officers then engaged in a shootout with one of the suspects that left one officer wounded, according to the GBI.
Parks, Snow and two K-9 officers exchanged gunfire, although it’s unclear who fired first.
An officer, who has not been publicly identified, was shot and hospitalized in Augusta with non-life-threatening injuries. He has since been released.
The suspect killed in the exchange of gunfire was later identified as 26-year-old Marquavious Rashod Parks.

Parks was found dead in a nearby pond and an autopsy has been ordered.
Snow, who was uninjured in the shootout, was arrested and faces charges including aggravated assault against a peace officer and felony murder.
Officials have not specified what contraband Parks and Snow were allegedly trying to smuggle into the prison.

An autopsy was ordered on Parks
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation launched its probe into the shooting Monday and will hand it over to the Washington County District Attorney’s Office “for next steps,” officials said.
