Police arrest woman accused of killing San Antonio rapper in his La Cantera-area apartment on Jan 26

She is being held on a $500, 000 bond

Police in Bexar County, Texar have arrested the woman accused of fatally shooting a rapper at his La Cantera-area apartment last month. Sasha Skare, 21, was arrested Saturday on suspicion of murder for the death of 34-year-old Martell Derouen.
Martell Derouen, 34, who rapped under the name Kardone, was discovered by San Antonio police officers conducting a welfare check.
On Jan. 28, San Antonio police were called to Derouen’s residence at The Towers apartments, located at 16735 La Cantera Parkway, around noon after a 911 caller asked for a welfare check on the rapper. The caller said they hadn’t heard from him in several days and were concerned.

When officers arrived, there was  a single bullet hole through the front door. Inside, they found Derouen lying next to the door in a pool of blood, an arrest affidavit said. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators spoke with Derouen’s wife, who said the two had been separated and he had been living with Skare, his new girlfriend, the affidavit said.
Kardone’s estranged wife, Joia, said the pair met online., before he started mentoring her.
“He released a mixtape called ‘Trunk Bang,’ and he wanted some girls for a video shoot and he honestly just met her online,” Kardone’s wife Joia DeRouen, told CBS Austin. 
“When you know, the video shoot was over. He said, hey, you know, she’s interested in music. I think I want to help her out.” 
Joia knew about his plans and despite being separated, she still communicated with him and remained friendly. Joia got worried when she could not connect with Kardone. She also noted that he hadn’t spoken to his step-mother either. 
“I was blowing up his phone, actually texting, calling, trying to even FaceTime,” to no avail, Joia continued.So that in the back of our mind is what we were thinking.” 
On Tuesday, Jan. 26, Joia called cops to make a welfare check at his home at The Towers Apartments along La Cantera Parkway.
According to a witness, Skare and Derouen were heard loudly arguing that ended after Derouen told Skare to get out and slammed the apartment door. The witness then heard Skare banging on the door before hearing a single gunshot, the affidavit said.
Investigators believe Skare fired from outside as Derouen stood inside the apartment, behind the door.
After the shooting, Skare was seen walking the halls of the apartment complex with a cell phone in one hand and a handgun in the other, according to the affidavit. Investigators later discovered that Skare had placed the 911 call after allegedly shooting Derouen, the affidavit said.
On the call, Skare identified herself as Derouen’s wife.

Derouen who rapped under the name Kardone and was signed to The Orchard, a label owned by Sony Music. He was originally from Louisiana and a cousin of Beyoncé, according to The Source’s May 2019 coverage of the rising musician.
Although Kardone was initially known for being Beyonce’s cousin, but in the last few years, he’s changed that narrative with his own musical pursuits. In 2016, he relesed his debut mixtape “Trunk Bang” via Empire. He has since has gone on to collaborate with the likes Ray J and Paul Wall on two of his singles, as well as having his “911” music video directed by Ethan Maniquis, the co-director of the box office film “Machete.”
Police identifiedthe victim’s live-in girlfriend, Sasha Skare, 21, as a suspect after the body was found.

A San Antonio native, Skare is also involved in the local music scene. She released a single ‘Zoom’ produced by Kardone in April 2020. She followed that with an album titled ‘Hyer Quality, Vol 1’.
Sasha Skare, the woman who allegedly gunned down the Sony recording artist, was on the loose for almost two weeks before she was arrested over the weekend, in San Antonio. 
This is the second time the aspiring rapper who has a rap sheet, has been held in connection with a homicide. She is currently being held on a $500,000 bond.

On November 29, 2019, San Antonio police responding to a call from a woman that her boyfriend had been shot found 21-year-old Andrew Bass bleeding inside a ccar at an auto body repair shop and 21-year-old shasha skare on the phone according to a police affidavit.
According to police, Bass and Skare had gone to buy Marijuana from a someone. Getting there Bass walked off, about a minute later Skare heard gunshots and found Bass wrestling with another man. According to Skare, Bass asked her to grab the gun out of the guy’s hand.
Skare told police interviewers that she grabbed the gun and a bag of marijuana from the man and put them in the Kia, then helped Bass into he car backseat and drove away.
She called 911 she said when she realized she din’t know the way to a hospital. She was later charged with aggravated robbery with a deadly weapon, first-degree felony
