<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The remains of a missing teenager have been found more than seven years after her disappearance in 2013 when she was last seen at a gas station in ;Virginia. <br>The Nelson County Sheriff’s Office said on social media that the remains of Alexis Murphy were located on December 3 on private property along US 29 in Lovingston near ;Stagebridge Road. ;<br>The sheriff&#8217;s office said they received positive identification of the remains as those of Murphy on February 5, but did not state what led police to the teen&#8217;s remains. Release of information to the public was delayed out of respect for Murphy&#8217;s family, the sheriff&#8217;s office said in a press release. ;<br>The family has asked for privacy at this time, but they did release a statement to the sheriff&#8217;s office: &#8216;Our family is so grateful for the continuing love, support and prayers for Alexis and our family over the past 7 years. While we have been grieving the loss of Alexis since 2013, we remained hopeful that she would be found alive and well&#8217;. ;<br>&#8216;Alexis was the fashionista, athlete and joker of our family; we were blessed to have loved her for 17 years and her memory will continue to live on through us all.<br>&#8216;Our family would like to extend a heartfelt thanks and sincere gratitude to the citizens of Nelson County, the FBI, the Virginia State Police, the Nelson County Sheriff&#8217;s Office and all of the search and rescue teams for your commitment and unwavering support to find Alexis. <p class="wp-block-paragraph">&#8216;During this time, we ask that you continue to lift our family up in prayer and in the words of Alexis, &#8220;Keep Hope Alive&#8221;,&#8217; the family wrote. ;<br>Murphy, was on her way to get her hair done for a school picture when she was abducted. ;The 17-year-old was last seen at the ;Liberty gas station in Lovingston and reported missing on August 3, 2013. <br>Local, state and federal law enforcement pursued multiple leads and conducted numerous searches, at the time, in an effort to locate Murphy. ;<br>The searches continued periodically since her disappearance in 2013, with law enforcement expanding the search area each time. ; <br>The killer was was convicted and jailed a year later. Randy Allen Taylor, 55, was tried after surveillance video from the gas station showed his vehicle following Taylor’s truck. ;<br>Investigators later found strands of Murphy&#8217;s hair, her mobile phone, an earring and a human fingernail in his mobile home. ;Murphy’s car was found several days after her disappearance in a parking lot of a movie theater in Albemarle County. ; ;<br>The gas station is nearly 6 miles from where her remains were found. ;<br>Taylor was convicted in 2014 of first-degree murder in commission of an abduction and abduction with intent to defile in Murphy&#8217;s abduction and sentenced to two life terms. ;He maintained his innocence but did not testify at trial. ; ; ;</p>
