<p class="wp-block-paragraph">A 38-year-old man from Minnesota has been arrested for the murder of his wife 11 years after he told police an intruder broke into their home, grabbed his shotgun and shot her dead during a struggle. ;<br>Nicholas Firkus was taken into custody on Wednesday ;on suspicion of murdering his 25-year-old wife ;Heidi in their ;home in St. Paul, more than a decade ago. ;Firkus was 27 at the time.<br>Police have not released details on what led to Firkus&#8217; arrest in the cold case and his criminal complaint won&#8217;t be unsealed until later on Thursday. ;<br>Jail records show Firkus, of ;Mounds View, which is about 15 minutes from St. Paul, was booked for second-degree intentional murder. ;</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">His attorney ;Joe Friedberg said at the time that Firkus was a victim and not the perpetrator. ;<br>Friedberg, who is still representing ;Firkus, had no comment following his client&#8217;s arrest because he hadn&#8217;t yet seen the allegations against him. ;  ;<br>Heidi&#8217;s family issued a statement via police following news of the arrest, saying they were happy about the development in their daughter&#8217;s case. ;<br>&#8216;We&#8217;re extremely grateful for all those who have worked so hard and long to get the case to this point. And also for everyone who has prayed and stood beside us all these years,&#8217; the family said. ;<br>&#8216;We are hopeful that these charges will finally bring out the truth and result in justice for Heidi. Even though we know we can&#8217;t have her back, we believe Heidi would want us to have the truth.<br>&#8216;God is honored by truth. Heidi&#8217;s life and memory is further honored by truth.&#8217; ;<br>Firkus is scheduled to make ;his first court appearance on Thursday. ;<br>Heidi Firkus, who graduated from Roseville Area High School in 2003 and went to the University of Northwestern in Roseville, met Nicholas at church. The pair who both served as youth group leaders, were married at the church in 2005.<br>Two years after Heidi was killed, in August 2012, Nicholas Firkus remarried. He has been divorced in second marriage since 2019. The couple, who had children ;</p>
