Samuel’s father, Dalton Olson, and his girlfriend, Theresa Balboa, told investigators the boy was last seen last Thursday in southwest Houston.
Balboa reported Samuel missing on May 27 in the 8800 block of McAvoy Drive in Houston, having claimed the boy was taken by his biological mother, Sarah Olson, and a person dressed as a police officer. She was going to take Samuel to school when his mother showed up with someone dressed as a cop and took him away, Balboa claimed: ‘I was going to take Sam to school when his mother showed up with the police officer, or who I was under the impression to be a police officer, and they demanded me to release Sam,’ Balboa told ABC13 on Monday.
Dalton Olson and Samuel’s biological mother, Sarah Olson, share custody of the child.
Balboa said because she does not have any legal rights to Samuel, she was forced to hand him over to his birth mother and the person dressed in a full police uniform, complete with a gun, handcuffs and a Harris County badge.
Cops were unable to verify Balboa’s version of events.
Houston police said Samuel’s mother told them she does not know where her son is.
Houston police Assistant Chief Larry Satterwhite told reporters that the last confirmed sighting of Samuel was April 30 at Holbrook Elementary School.
Samuel’s paternal grandmother, Tonya Olson, claimed he was with her the following weekend, May 8-9, and that she then heard his voice on the phone a little over a week ago.

Sarah Olson, Samuel’s birth mother , said through a lawyer that she had primary custody of the boy but had not seen him since January 2020. She claimed that her ex-husband had taken their son and failed to return him
Prior to the heartbreaking discovery in Jasper, Sarah Olson said through her lawyer that she had been denied access to her son since the last time she saw him in January 2020, despite having primary custody of him.
Attorney Marco González Click2Houston the story told by her ex-husband’s girlfriend about the mother picking up Samuel with a person dressed as a cop was a lie, and that she had not seen her son in a year.
According to González, Sarah and Dalton Olson divorced, and the mother was given primary custody of Samuel in 2019.
The former spouses initially would hand over Samuel to one another through the boy’s paternal grandmother, Tonya Olson.
But after one of the handovers a year ago, Dalton Olson allegedly failed to return Samuel to his ex-wife. The attorney did not say what, if any, legal steps Sarah Olson had taken to try and reclaim custody of her son over the past 16 months.
Dalton Olson on Tuesday defended his conduct pertaining to Samuel prior to the discovery of the body.
‘I’ve literally tried to do everything from the very beginning to do what’s best for my son,’ the father said. ‘That is my whole world and I can’t imagine if anything happened to him and I believe he’s still out there.’

Sarah said that the story told to the media by her ex-husband’s ex-girlfriend tying her to Samuel’s disappearance was a lie.
Police said the body at the motel that is believed to be that of the six-year-old had been there for some time.
It has since emerged that Samuel may have been seen at an apartment on Gulf Breeze in southeast Houston that belongs to a friend of Balboa’s.

The story Balboa told investigators and the media was a lie and made up González said. His client had primary custody and was denied for many months from getting the child. Sarah hasn’t had access to Samuel since the last time she saw him in January 2020 González said. His client hadn’t been able to get in touch with her ex Dalton Olson or mother, so she hasn’t had much communication with Samuel.
González said the father took Samuel and failed to return him. The child went two months without going to school before being taken to another school in Jersey Village. When Sarah and Dalton divorced, the custody agreement allegedly placed the child with the mother, which has not been modified since 2019, according to González. He said Sarah would initially exchange the child through the paternal grandmother, Tonya Olson.
González said Balboa’s accusations implicating that she had something to do with her son’s disappearance is false, saying that there are “too many holes in that story.”

Balboa, who is currently in the Jasper County Jail awaiting extradition back to Harris County, was arrested in Jasper Tuesday night when the child’s body was found. At the time the suspect was out on bond from a prior assault case from November, police disclosed Wednesday. She was charged with assault with intent impeding breath, after she allegedly choked Dalton Olson.
Olson was issued an emergency protective order against Balboa, barring her from having direct contact with the victim or any member of his family.
When asked about the order, Olson said that he and Balboa have reconciled, and that the choking incident had nothing to do with his son, who was not present during that altercation.
Olson further defended Balboa, saying that she has been helping him care for his son while he was at work.
‘I feel like I’m having a bad dream that I can’t wake up from,’ he said.
