<p class="wp-block-paragraph">An Indiana teen tried as an adult, will spend a century behind bars after he was to two consecutive 50 year prison sentences after he was convicted of suffocating two of his younger siblings to &#8216;free them from Satan and hell&#8217;. ; <br>Nickalas Kedrowitz, now 17, was 13 when he murdered his ;23-month-old half-sister Desiree McCartney and his 11-month-old stepbrother Nathaniel Ritz. <br>He was convicted in August last year on two counts of murder. ;The judge ordered 50-year prison terms for each death to be served one after the other. ; <br>Kedrowitz killed Desiree in May 2017 and Nathaniel in July 2017 and both children were found unresponsive at the family&#8217;s home in Osgood, about 60 miles southeast of Indianapolis. ; ;</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Ripley County Prosecutor Richard Hertel said Kedrowitz told detectives that he was &#8216;freeing his siblings from hell.&#8217;<br>&#8216;This wasn&#8217;t some sort of heat of passion, one killing and then minutes or hours or even days later, we´re talking months here, so we think that the consecutive part of the sentence was warranted and appropriate in this circumstance,&#8217; Hertel told reporters after the sentencing hearing.<br>The judge ordered that Kedrowitz&#8217;s case be handled in adult court despite his attorney´s arguments that the teen has untreated mental health problems. <br>He was convicted in August 2021r on two counts of murder. The judge ordered 50-year prison terms for each death to be served one after the other.<br>Desiree was found dead after Kedreowitz had been left to look after the toddler. He told his mother the little girl &#8216;wasn&#8217;t breathing right&#8217; according to Fox 19. ;<br>On July 20 that year Kedrowitz was putting Nathaniel to bed and claimed the child stopped moving. ;<br>About a month and a half after Nathaniel&#8217;s death, Desiree&#8217;s mother, Christina McCartney, called an Indiana State Police detective. She wanted him to be aware of a recent incident involving Kedrowitz.<br>She told police that Kedrowitz had &#8220;mutilated a kitten to the point of almost killing it&#8221; at his aunt&#8217;s and uncle&#8217;s home, according to court documents.<br>It scratched him, and he got upset and squeezed the animal.<br>His aunt and uncle decided to take the kitten somewhere and kill it because it was suffering. Kedrowitz asked if he could go with them to &#8220;see the kitten&#8217;s brains splatter everywhere,&#8221; according to court documents.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">When copse interviewed Kedrowitz&#8217;s aunt, Candice Barker, one week after the incident, she revealed her nephew was failing all of his classes and had been in fights at school, often doesn&#8217;t tell the truth, is self-centered, has been on medication for depression and has a temper, she said. <br>According to court documents, Kedrowitz&#8217;s temper reminded Barker of the comic character, Hulk.<br>The suspect subsequently underwent underwent psychological evaluations. Among the revelations police got from Dr. Linda McIntire&#8217;s report was Kedrowitz making multiple statements about &#8220;freeing his siblings from Satan and Hell,&#8221; and violent themes involving &#8220;large knives and burning fire.&#8221;<br>Kedrowitz <a href="https://www.indystar.com/story/news/crime/2019/09/25/indiana-boy-accused-smothering-his-siblings-charged-adult/2277518001/">reportedly, said</a> he was &#8216;freeing his siblings from Satan an hell&#8217; during a psychological evaluation. ;He went on to admit to police that he’d used a towel and blanket to smother his infant siblings to “set them free from this hell.”<br></p>
