At 7:45 p.m. Tuesday, Davis – who police said they were trying to find and speak to – was located by the state troopers and local police in nearby West Brattleboro.
Police didn’t say how it escalated, but Davis who reportedly, was armed with a knife and threatened officers with it, ‘during an attempt to speak with’ him, before he was shot by police.

Mary Anderson was last seen on Saturday July 16, 70 miles from where she was found, driving her navy blue 2017 Toyota Tacoma in Hudson, New Hampshire at about 10:30 p.m. – Three days later her body was found inside her truck in Brattleboro, Vermont.
Anderson’s body was found early Tuesday morning inside her truck in the Vermont town of Brattleboro on Elliot Street after having gone missing the past weekend.
Her truck was found in the next state over in Brattleboro at around 12:55 a.m. Tuesday morning, police said.

Anderson’s cause of death has not yet been determined pending an autopsy by the Vermont Chief Medical Examiner’s Office.
Sheila Anderson, Mary’s mother, said the couple had been dating for three years until they broke up in November.
‘They just broke up in November,’ Anderson told WCVB.
‘They were going together for three years and something happened in their relationship and she said, ‘I’m done.”

Anderson added that her daughter was supposed to be headed home Saturday night after hanging out with friends in the New Hampshire town where she was last seen.
She noted that her family provides constant updates on their whereabouts, so it frightened her when Mary didn’t come home that night.
Mary Anderson was reported missing by the family on Sunday evening.
The mother was heartbroken over the fact that her daughter may have been on her own in her last moments.
‘The sad part for me as a mom … whatever she experienced these last four days. Just heart-wrenching. She was alone. She wasn’t with her mom or her siblings. I think that’s the devastating part. Not knowing what she was going through the last four days,’ she said.

Davis had a criminal history, records show.
In 2009, he snuck into a former girlfriend’s apartment, hid in the closet, and waited until she and her new boyfriend were in bed together, according to court records.
He jumped out of the closet and stabbed the new boyfriend with a large kitchen knife in the chest, arms, and legs, records said. He was found hiding in a snow bank by police a few hours later.
The new boyfriend survived the attack, while Davis was convicted and served several years in prison.

Davis pled guilty in 2010 to assault with intent to kill and breaking and entering, according to court records. He was sentenced to four to nine years in state prison. Davis was paroled in 2015, according to the state Department of Correction, and completed his parole two years later.
More recently, Davis was prosecuted for a misdemeanor charge of assault and battery while living in Leominster in 2019, but the charge was eventually dropped, possibly because law enforcement could not find his alleged victim.
