Shocking footage has emerged of a 25-year-old North Carolina woman being brutally beaten by a friend in a Mexico villa before she was found dead – and friends claimed she died of alcohol poisoning.
The video shows the terrifying moment Shanquella Robinson was attacked while she was naked in a bedroom.
Shanquella Robinson, who ran a hair braiding business for children in Charlotte, flew from Charlotte to Cabo San Lucas with six friends on Oct. 28 to celebrate one of their birthdays, according to reports.
The friends on the trip have been identified by Thencbeat as Khalil Cooke, Malik Dyer, 26, Wenter Donovan, Alysse Hyatt, 27, Daejhanae Jackson, 26, and 25-year-old Nazeer Tyree Vincente Wiggins
Shanquella’s mother, Salamondra Robinson, told Fox affiliate WJZY that she last spoke to her daughter moments after she had settled down for a meal with her friends.
They agreed to talk the next day, but the phone call that she received instead was from one of Shanquella’s friends, who told her that her daughter was sick and they were waiting for a doctor to arrive.
The next day, Saturday, October 29, Salamondra Robinson, said they received a phone call from Khalil Cooke about Shanquella “resting” and “not feeling good” and that she had puked a couple of times.
‘They said she wasn’t feeling well. She had alcohol poisoning,’ Salamondra said.
‘They couldn’t get a pulse. Each one of the people that was there with her was telling different stories,’ Shanquella Robinson’s mother, Salamondra, told WJZY last week.
She later received a tragic call from one of Shanquella’s friends claiming the young woman had died from food poisoning.
‘No one told the same story, so I never believed them anyway,’ Salomondra said.
But a death certificate obtained by the local outlet reveals that Robinson died from a “severe spinal cord injury and atlas luxation,” that is, a loosening or detachment of her first vertebra from the base of the skull.
“When the autopsy came back, they said it didn’t have anything to do with the alcohol,” Salamondra said. “[They] said that she had a broken neck and her spine in the back was cracked. She had been beaten.”
On Tuesday, a blogger in North Carolina published video footage allegedly showing a violent fight between Robinson and another woman, purportedly taken in the moments before Robinson’s death.
The precise origins of the clip, which has raised further questions about the circumstances surrounding the young entrepreneur’s mysterious death, has not been confirmed.
The footage shows a woman, identified as Daejhanae Jackson, attacking Shanquella Robinson at the villa they rented out for the birthday of one of their friends in Cabo, Mexico, on October 28.
A man, who appears to be filming the sickening assault, taunts Shanquella ‘can you at least fight back?’
Shanquella attempts to get away from her attacker and replies ‘no’, before the woman slams her to the floor next to the bed.
The woman then punches and knees her in the head.
The woman then yells at Shanquella to ‘get up, I’m tired of the ****.’
A representative for Villa Linda 32, the property where the group was staying, told WJZY that the concierge contacted a doctor who attempted to revive Shanquella.
She was declared dead at 3pm local time, reportedly about 15 minutes after she was beaten.
A copy of the autopsy report obtained by her mother Salamondra indicated that Shanquella’s neck was broken. Salamondra said the family received photos of Shanquella in which her face was swollen, she had a knot on her head, her eyes were swollen, and her lips were split.
WJZY reported that the area in the death certificate that would show if Shanquella had been intoxicated only indicated that she ‘was found unconscious in her living room’.
The certificate also has an area where authorities note whether the death was accidental or violent. They inscribed ‘yes’ into the section, but did not choose accidental or violent.
Shanquella’s body was flown back to Charlotte last Thursday and a funeral service was held over the weekend.
‘All I’ve been doing is just crying, trying to figure out what happened,’ her father Bernard Robinson said of his late daughter. ‘I can’t even be a grandfather, can’t even walk her down the aisle, she’s gone.’
