A Brazilian soap actor who was found stuffed inside a trunk was killed by conmen who promised him lucrative TV work while stealing his money, his mother claims.
Jefferson Machado, 44, known for his roles on Brazilian TV, had been missing since January 27.
His distraught mother, Maria das Dores, has claimed that her son was hoodwinked by conmen who promised him acting success at a top network while taking his money, only for him to be found buried in the backyard of a Campo Grande, Brazil, home.
The Rio de Janeiro State Civil Police suggested that Machado was killed after he learned he was the victim of an embezzlement.
Das Dores says the pair killed Machado – who was found with a wire around his throat – so that they could take his car, house and funds from a lawsuit he had recently won.
‘He believed in these false friends who led him to believe he was going to make it, even taking money (him),’ das Dores told local outlet G1.
‘He was deceived, totally deceived, he died thinking he was going to join Globo.’

Machado last acting gig came in 2022 when he had a role in Record TV’s soap opera, ‘Reis,’ and was expecting join the cast of a TV Globo soap that was going to begging recording in February, the same month he was official ruled missing by police after he disappeared in January.
However, his mother had the impression that they were stringing him all along.
‘It was a complete deception. I said: ‘My son, this is not going to work, they can’t do it, who is this guy to do it?’ das Dores said in the interview. ‘He would answer me that they had friends and that they would make it, thinking that someone from inside would help.’
Family lawyer, Jairo Magalhães, on Friday revealed that Rio de Janeiro were close to closing the investigation and were awaiting for a warrant to arrest dos suspects.
‘The police are hearing from two people today,’ he said in a text message. ‘They are very close to finding the perpetrators of this barbaric crime and arresting them.’
Two individuals answered to subpoenas Friday morning, but declined to provided their names to reporters, G1 reported.

Das Dores communicated with her son a few days later and learned that he had traveled to São Paulo for a job interview, but was suspicious of the conversation because it was via text instead of video after he claimed that he had dropped his cellphone in the toilet.
Doubts grew even more in February when Machado’s cloud’s password was changed and his location was deactivated.
After months of investigations, the Rio de Janeiro State Civil Police was able to track down Machado’s whereabouts to an outhouse in Campo Grande.

His hands and feet were tied. G1 had access to an autopsy report released Thursday which indicated that he had a piece of cloth in his mouth and a telephone wire wrapped around his neck.
While the autopsy was unable to produce his cause of death because of the advanced composition of Machado’s body.
Police believe that Machado was killed at his home and then brought over to the outhouse before he was buried in the trunk six feet below the ground.
