Influencer Hend ‘DJ Afrodyte’ Bustami, 29, pled ‘guilty but mentally ill’ after she was charged with the murder of her mother

She was sentenced Tuesday to 15 years-to-life for a fatal assault on 61-year-old Afaf Hussanen in October 2022

Bustami claimed a row over cigarettes escalated to the point where she hit her mother over the head with an end table made of glass and stabbed her with a piece that broke off

As per the plea, she also admitted to several prior felonies – including charges of burglary, home invasion, possession, and sale of a controlled substance

A Las Vegas influencer who once old officers she was too ‘pretty’ to be arrested for a ‘dine and Dash’, will serve a minimum of 15 years in prison after admitting to the violent murder of her mother, barely two months later. 
The judgment comes three months after Hend Bustami, 29, pled ‘guilty but mentally ill’ to a second-degree murder with a deadly weapon charge for the October 2022 killing of 61-year-old Afaf Hussanen.
She will now spend the next 15 years in prison, after telling officers that an argument over cigarettes escalated to the point where she hit her mom over the head with an end table made of glass, hard enough to shatter the glass top. She then stabbed the 61-year-old Afaf Hussanen with a piece of the shattered glass, which proved fatal.
About a month before the fatal domestic altercation, Bustami made headlines for an entirely different reason – an arrest at Harry Reid International Airport in Las Vegas after she skipped out on a bill at an airport Chili’s restaurant.
When officers descended on her, she protested that she was too ‘pretty’ to be arrested, labeling the lawmen as ‘perverts’ who were ‘trying to rape her, because they never seen anyone as good looking.’

A month later, she would phone 911 to tell the operator, ‘I think I killed my mommy’
‘Do you need police, fire, or medical?’ the 911 dispatcher is heard asking the then 28-year-old an audio recording of her 911 call the night in question, which prosecutors played  during Bustami’s grand jury hearing. 
‘Uh, medical,’ she responds. ‘I think I killed my mommy.’

Bustami proceeds to give the dispatcher the address of the home she shared with her mother in the south Vegas valley near Jones Boulevard and Cactus Avenue.
The operator further inquires why she thinks she ‘killed her mommy.’ 
‘Because I did. I murdered her,’ the daughter calmly states.

The convicted killer goes on to reiterate to the dispatcher how she was still at her mother’s house, once again confirming the address.  
The dispatch worker then asks:  ‘Okay, what did you do to her?’
‘I killed her,’ Bustami responds quietly. 
‘How did you kill her, you said something about a table?’ the dispatcher asks again. 
‘I broke the table on her head,’ Bustami explains. ‘I broke the table on her head and I cut her neck off.’
‘You cut what?’ the dispatcher asks in disbelief.
‘Her neck off,’ the woman coolly replies.

Bustami then fled, only to be arrested 150 miles away by the California Highway Patrol, hours later.
Five months later she was indicted on the murder charge.
She will now spend the next 15 years in prison, after her admission that an argument over cigarettes escalated to the point where she hit her mother over the head with an end table made of glass, before stabbing the 61-year-old with a piece of a piece of the broken glass.

A couple of months prior, Bustami made national headlines for an unrelated arrest after she skipped out on a bill at the Chili’s restaurant in Las Vegas’ Harry Reid International Airport

‘I think I hurt my mommy,’ Bustami told disbelieving dispatchers. ‘I broke the table on her head and I cut her neck off,’ she told them before hanging up the phone. 

Afaf Hussanen was found stabbed to death at the home with pieces of broken glass. Killed by her adult daughter, who fled but was later arrested more than 150 miles away by the California Highway Patrol

Police would quickly descend on the scene, and California Highway cops would later locate Bustami driving aimlessly some 150 miles away near Barstow, police said. 
While speaking to officers, Bustami was covered in blood, and allegedly again admitted to the killing.
She was subsequently arrested for the second time in a month, after her allegedly drunk tirade – and dine-and-dash – at the airport restaurant.
Though Bustami was found mentally competent to stand trial, her public defender argued that a psychologist ‘found her experiencing “intermittent exacerbations of psychosis,” and “in need of continuing psychiatric treatment,”‘ court records said.
At first, she pled not guilty, before recanting and signing a plea deal of ‘guilty but mentally ill to second-degree murder,’ meaning she was mentally ill at the time of the offense.
As per her plea arrangement, she also admitted to a slew of other offenses for which she had prior felony convictions – including charges of burglary, home invasion, possession of a controlled substance with intent to sell, and sale of a controlled substance.

Judge Jacqueline Bluth on Tuesday hit Bustami with 15-year-to-life sentence, a court spokesperson confirmed – before revealing that Bustami will be up for parole in 2037 with credit for time served.

As part of her sentence, Bustami will also be required to receive medical care for mental illness, due to the psychologist’s diagnosis and her apparent history of outbursts

In dishing out her ruling, Bluth said Bustami’s mental health history includes diagnoses for several types of psychoses and disorders, and that she will have the option to receive mental health treatment while incarcerated.
