A teenage country musician from North Carolina, has been expelled from her Christian high school because she has performed at bars and nightclubs ‘that serve alcohol’.
17-year-old Baily Griggs says she was kicked out of Cramerton Christian Academy in Gastonia, North Carolina, before her senior year because of her presence at places where ‘drugs and alcohol are present,’ such as ‘nightclubs or bars,’ the school wrote in an email informing the family she is no longer welcome in the school – without prior notice, the teen’s mom said in an interview with WRAL News.

The school reportedly informed her Jennifer Griggs that her daughter Bailey was not welcome to return for her senior year via email. 
‘When you look at the handbook and the way it’s written, it says that she’s not to be gathering in places where there’s alcohol and drugs,’ Jennifer Griggs told WRAL.
‘She’s not gathering, she’s doing her job.’

Baily Griggs who’s been performing since age of 10 is expelled for performing at concerts where ‘alcohol and drugs are present,’ the school said. The teen singer responded that ‘attending the venues is part of her musical career. She does not drink when she attends the venues as she is underage’ 

Jennifer Griggs says the fact that the family did not receive prior warning before the expulsion email suggests Baily was targeted, pointing to the double standards in the implementation of the morality clause for the students

Baily Griggs in response said attending the venues is part of her musical career, besides that she does not drink when she attends the venues as she is underage. 
Jennifer Griggs argued that many of the school’s students post images attending concerts where there is alcohol and have not been expelled. 
‘The other kids in the schools, there’s post, many, many posts of them attending music concerts,’ Jennifer said. 
‘If anyone knows, when you go to those concerts, you’re surrounded by alcohol.’
Moreover, Jennifer argued that many restaurants also serve alcohol.

Standing by their decision, Cramerton Christian Academy, insists that they do not enroll students who do not the exceptionally high standards set by the school. 
Baily has been performing since the age of 10 and was discovered by Dolly Parton’s producer Kent Wells.
She had been homeschooled while enrolled at Cramerton but enrolled in the  homeschool bridge program, which allowed her to participate in school sports and other activities.

Baily Griggs was the captain of the cheerleading team at the Academy and an active member at the school’s church.  She is now looking into other homeschooling programs and plans on continuing performing as she works towards her diploma

According to the Gaston Gazette, Baily was the captain of the cheerleading team and an active member at the school’s church. 
Baily and her mother say they are not asking the school to change their decision, but they believe the rules should apply to everyone.
‘Yeah, rules are rules, but make sure you’re making everybody abide by those rules. Not just some people,’ Baily told WRAL. 
Baily is now looking into other homeschooling programs and plans on continuing performing as she works towards her diploma.
