<p class="wp-block-paragraph">A woman in Gillette, Wyoming offered an unusual defense after she was charged with domestic abuse, saying her boyfriend punched himself in the face. <br>Caron Highhawk, 35, claimed that in an attempt to get her in trouble, her unnamed boyfriend punched himself in the face. <br>After inspecting both of their fists, however, police only discovered redness and damage only to hers, according to an evidentiary affidavit. <br>Highhawk is also facing allegations from summer and spring for aggravated assault and domestic battery after she allegedly beat the same boyfriend and threatened him with a knife. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The victim who requested anonymity to &#8216;spare his kids from fallout&#8217;, told the <a href="https://cowboystatedaily.com/2024/11/06/gillette-woman-charged-with-domestic-abuse-claims-boyfriend-punched-himself/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Cowboy State Daily</a> that the pair were in an on-and-off relationship.<br>The pair had been together in the days leading up to the alleged assault, but he had broken up with her after she reportedly said cruel things about his children. <br>According to the warrant affidavit, Highhawk had called her boyfriend about 26 times. The man who had been on the phone with a friend, told his friend that eventually she stopped calling, adding that &#8216;she&#8217;s quit calling because she&#8217;s on her way to your house&#8217;. <br>He checked and she had pulled up outside his window according to court documents: &#8216;Man, she&#8217;s here,&#8217; he told his friend over the phone. <br>He let her inside the house in an effort at reconciliation: &#8216;She&#8217;s very persuasive. She says that she will get sober and do better, and that she loves me, and she wants us to have a life together,&#8217; the victim told the outlet. &#8216;And she&#8217;s very attractive. She&#8217;s beautiful and I&#8217;m weak.&#8217; <br>He reveals that when their relationship is in a good space, she makes him feel cherished, but whenever they have a fallout, he&#8217;s terrified and fears for his life. <br>On this night, the estranged couple who were together in another make up attempt, had settled in for the night, when she confronted him over a notification on his phone. <br>Her questioning if he had seen other women while she was in jail for allegedly threatening him with a knife earlier in the year, led to a verbal altercation. A verbal argument ensued, and a 911 call was made, in which the caller did not address the dispatcher, but the argument was heard over the phone. <br>According to the document, at this point Highhawk became violent. The homeowner reportedly, went into the kitchen to get a beer, she had followed him and allegedly punched him four times in both eyes, according to the affidavit. During the attack Highhawk broke his glasses, and his left eye began swelling shut. <br>The altercation was reported to follow a similar pattern of jealousy turning into violent attacks from earlier cases against her. <br>For instance, court documents from the knife accident, states that Highhawk had told him &#8216;I&#8217;ll ruin you&#8217;. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Highhawk standing at 5&#8242; 4&#8221;, weighing 133 lbs, according to her court file, is much smaller than her boyfriend, who stands at 6 foot and is 245 pounds. Despite his being much bigger than Highhawk, he claims he never hit her back: &#8216;I&#8217;ve never hit a woman before in my life, and I&#8217;m never gonna. I just stand there and let her do it,&#8217; he said.<br>He said he attempted to bear hug her to stop her from punching him. <br>Highhawk in her police interview claimed instead, that she had gone into the bathroom after the argument began and he had threatened to &#8216;get her in trouble&#8217;. Whilst in the bathroom she heard &#8216;flesh hitting flesh&#8217;. Re-entering the room, she met the complainant punching himself in the face. <br>At this point officers requested an inspection of couple&#8217;s fists. &#8216;I asked Highhawk if I could see her hands,&#8217; said GPD Officer Liz Hodge. <br>&#8216;She had red markings near her knuckles, which would be consistent with striking someone with closed fists.&#8217; <br>Conversely Hodge found no markings on the victim&#8217;s fists. While usually his hands are marked up from his work as a mechanic, he said by a strange twist of fate, his hands on the occasion were pristine after not working for two weeks prior. And when officer Hodge also asked him to put his broken glasses back on, finding the lens damage was consistent with his worst eye injury. <br>Highhawk whose September aggravated assault case is ongoing in Campbell County District Court. Her latest case for assault is being heard at the Gillette Circuit Court. She is being held at Campbell County Detention center on a $250,000 bond, while the victim reportedly, is seeking a protection order. </p>
