A 35-year-old Pennsylvania man ended his 10-year marriage Thursday night, police believe, when he shot dead his wife, their two minor children, five and one, then himself in “ murder-suicide.
Family members who spoke to Paul Swarner and his wife Karen on Wednesday said “there was no what you would consider strife or any type of concern or fear of endangerment or anything like that.”
Local station WTAE, reports that Pennsylvania State Police said Paul Swarner, 35, his wife, Karen Swarner, 32, and their two young children, Evelyn, 5, and Connor, 1, were discovered by Karen’s father at their Ruffsdale home in Westmoreland County on Thursday night, after family members hadn’t been able to get in contact with them.
The mystery deepened as police said neither Paul nor Karen had a criminal history or records of domestic violence before the tragic murder-suicide.

Addressing the media on Friday State Trooper Steve Limani said in a press conference Friday, police believe Paul Swarner fatally shot Karen and their two children before turning the gun on himself: ‘It’s unthinkable. It’s unfathomable,’ Limani said.
The family were found in the same room, along with a Ruger .22 handgun, the weapon investigators believe Swarner used to massacre his family and himself.
Family members spoke with the couple on Wednesday had It was a normal conversation. They told authorities that for ‘all intents and purposes, there was not what you would consider strife or any type of concern or fear of endangerment or anything like that.’
