    A suspect has been arrested in connection to the death of Kansas City sports reporter Adan Manzano, who passed away in his hotel room while covering Super Bowl LIX festivities in New Orleans this week at the age of 27.
    Police in Kenner, Louisiana say they have arrested 48-year-old Danette Colbert after she was found using the deceased reporter’s credit card at several stores in the New Orleans area, according to a police report. Colbert was apprehended on Thursday evening. 
    Security footage shows Colbert with Manzano on Wednesday morning before she was seen leaving his hotel hours later, according to investigators. Manzano was ultimately found unresponsive in his hotel on Wednesday afternoon. Authorities say there were no signs of obvious trauma to Manzano’s body, adding that it remains unclear if he was drugged as a toxicology report can take some time. 
    With the toxicology report pending, Colbert who is being held at the Orleans Parish Prison as a fugitive. For now she’s is only being charged for property crimes – bank fraud, computer fraud, illegal transmission of monetary funds, access device fraud and purse snatching.
    However, as the department noted in its release, the investigation is ongoing.

    His cause of death has not yet been determined as the Jefferson Parish Coroner’s Office is awaiting the results of further testing.
    However the woman in custody Danette Colbert from Slidell, Louisiana, has a history of drugging and robbing male marks. Her record of convictions in Jefferson and Orleans Parish includes targeting tourists, using their credit cards and possessing stolen goods.
    She was arrested in January of 2022 for allegedly drugging a man and stealing $50,000 from him on the Las Vegas Strip. Colbert would deny drugging the man, but was charged in Nevada again in May and July on similar allegations. The victims in these cases did not die as a result of their reported drugging. 
    In 2014 Colbert was arrested for second-degree battery and witness intimidation.
    The list of priors extends to her booking in August of 2022, allegedly, for driving 100mph near a school in the Las Vegas area.
    There is a possibility Colbert would end up with more serious charges. Deputy Chief Mark McCormick of the Kenner Police Dept. as said, ‘Obviously, there are allegations in [Colbert’s] past criminal history that make us consider that,’ adding ‘But we don’t have anything at this point.’

    In May 2015, Colbert pled guilty in Orleans Parish to two counts of theft after she stole a Rolex watch, cash and credit cards from a man she met on Bourbon Street, after leaving his hotel room with the items. She was sentenced to five years of active probation and three years of inactive probation.
    In May 2018 Colbert was arrested along with two other women at a Walmart in Gretna. She pled guilty to access device fraud in December 2019 and was sentenced to five years’ probation.
    After the victim lost his credit card while visiting a Bourbon Street strip club. The trio of suspects bought gift cards and got cash back on purchases totaling about $3,000. They also spent about $3,000 at a Sam’s Club.
    Colbert was sentenced to five years’ probation.

    27-year-old Mexico born Manzano who resides in Topeka, Kansas, was on the ground in New Orleans working as a sports anchor and sideline reporter. A statement from KGKC Telemundo Kansas City read: [Adan] was a true professional and a rising star, who exemplified excellence in his work.
    ‘We will deeply miss Adan and his passion for sports, and the contributions he made to the local community. Our thoughts and heartfelt condolences go out to his family and loved ones during this difficult time.’
    He is survived by his infant daughter, now completely orphaned. Manzano’s wife Ashleigh LeeAnn Boyd, 24, died in April in a car crash that also seriously injured their infant daughter. The crash occurred in Topeka, where the young family was based.

    Manzano, described by his employers as a ‘rising star’, was born in Mexico, joined the Kansas City sports desk after attending Kansas State University

    After graduating from Kansas State University, Manzano joined the Chiefs’ television crew at the beginning of the 2024 season as a sideline reporter.
    On Monday night, who Manzano posted photos from the Super Bowl’s opening night at the Superdome, where he was on duty interviewing the players was covering his third straight Super Bowl with the Chiefs this year going for the three-peat. 
    He was also a regular soccer reporter, covering Sporting Kansas City, and of Big 12 basketball and the Kansas JayHawks.
