Several people have been injured in what police described as ‘targeted shooting’ outside a courthouse in the German city of Bielefeld on Wednesday.
The mass shooting happened during the trial of Huseyin Akkurt, 38, who was charged in connection with the murder of professional boxer Besar Nimani last year.
The 38-year-old Albanian professional boxer who was born in Kosovo, once held the IBF European Super Welterweight title, as well as two German belts. He was shot on a street and killed in Bielefeld on March 9, 2024.

According to the indictment filed by the Bielefeld public prosecutor’s office, two men ambushed Besar Nimani on March 9 2024 and fired 16 shots in front of a shop in the city’s pedestrian zone.
Nimani, who died at the age of 38, had parked his car nearby earlier on the day of his death.
The shooter walked up to him. he was shot 16 times and bled to death at the scene.
The motive for the killing is still unknown, though many suspect it was to settle a score in the criminal world.

Four people were injured after one of two suspects – both now in custody – fired shots near the Regional Courthouse in the German city of Bielefeld after proceedings on Wednesday afternoon
At around 1:30pm local time, shortly after the end of Wednesday’s hearing, three shots were fired about 490 feet, from the courthouse, as police officers outside the courtroom shouted: ‘Someone is shooting outside!’
At least two of the defendant’s family members were among the those hit by gunfire. One suffered a wound to the leg, the other listed in critical condition having been shot in the chest.
Two suspects are in custody, including one who initially barricaded himself in a nearby building.
Akkurt’s trial began at the end of January, and strict security measures were put in place to ensure the safety of all involved. Riot squad cops reportedly had to secure the building and courtroom, and everyone who entered the courtroom had to be thoroughly searched

According to EuroNews, Nimani who moved from Kosovo to Germany as a refugee escaping the Kosovan war in 1997, had survived another shooting back in 2013.
