Italian police Officers have since arrested three Moroccan men on charges of gang rape and robbery following the assault on a young couple at a public park in Rome

A man was held down and forced to watch as migrants who smashed into his car then assaulted his girlfriend in Italy, according to police in Italy’s capital.
Up to five migrants smashed into a couple’s car, pinning down the 24-year-old man and forcing him to watch as they gang raped his 18-year-old girlfriend at a park in Rome, on October 25.
The couple, who were reportedly naked during the incident, had parked up in the corner of a Tor Tre Teoste, a calm park in the eastern part of capital, for privacy, minutes before they were surrounded by the group who attacked their vehicle.
Police said the attackers broke the window and first pulled the man from the car before forcing the woman out as she tried to cover herself with an item of clothing. 

The couple were attacked by five men on October 25, as they were in their parked in a quiet corner of Tor Tre Teste, a park in the eastern part of the capital, Rome

The man told cops he was restrained by two of the attackers as his girlfriend was dragged a short distance away. As she was sexually assaulted, he screamed for help, begged them to stop and even threatened revenge, but was unable to break free, the man told cops. 
After the attack, the three rapists and their accomplices fled the scene. The couple, both Italian, terrified and confused were then able to contact the police and file a report.
Three Moroccan men have arrested so far on charges of gang rape and robbery. 
Two of the suspects were traced by officers from Rome’s Flying Squad unit and detained only days after the attack. A third suspect was picked up in Venice a few days ago. 
Investigators who believe up to five men were involved in the assault have kept the arrests low key while they continue gathering evidence.

Fingerprints lifted from the shattered window match the men who have been arrested, according to investigators.
Officers also said the attack began as a robbery, as the couple’s belongings were taken during the assault. The attackers are believed to be known drug dealers.
Confirming that police are still looking into whether additional men were involved, a detective said that the ‘investigation isn’t closed’. 
As sex related crimes increases in the country, Italy’s Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni in November 2024, linked migrants, particularly undocumented ones, to the country’s increase in sexual violence and rape. 
Prior to her election, Meloni a conservative, posted a gruesome video of a woman being raped by a migrant on a pavement in Piacenza.

Recent gang-rape cases involving immigrants have led to public protests against illegal mass migration and violence against women.
Meanwhile, last week, politicians in Italy moved to expand the definition of sexual violence to include non-consensual acts. It removes the responsibility of the victim to show physical signs of abuse. 
Advocates have hailed the amendment, saying it will make it easier for people to report such crimes. 
It comes after the outcome of several rape cases sparked outrage.
