Man accused of killing a mother and her 4-year-old admitted, “I did it. I have no reason for what I did”

Brunett’s boyfriend Daniel Callihan, 36, the prime suspect in the killings of the mother-of-two and her daughter, was arrested Thursday in Jackson, MS

Arrested by Marshalls, Callihan led authorities to his car, where 6-year-old Jalie Brunett was found alive in a wooded area

He then led officers to the body of 3-year-old Erin Brunett a few yards away

The 36-year-old man accused of killing a Loranger mother-of-two and one of her young daughters Wednesday in southern Louisiana, admitted to the crime Friday morning.
Double-murder suspect Daniel Callihan was booked in Jackson, Mississippi, on charges of capital murder and sexual battery.
Callihan was escorted to jail, where he spoke to reporters before being loaded into a transport van.
Callihan said he was sober except for taking Lexapro when he committed the crimes.
“I did it. I have no reason for what I did,” Callihan said. “I am diagnosed multiple personality disorder. I think it was the side effects of the Lexapro.”

Three-year-old Erin Brunett was found dead and her 6-year-old sister was rescued from a horrific scene involving small animal cages that may be related to human trafficking, police in Mississippi said.
The grisly scene in Jackson, Mississippi on Thursday comes a day after the children’s mother, 35-year-old Callie Burnett, 35, was found murdered 130 miles away in her home in Loranger in southern Louisiana’s Tangipahoa Parish, after being missing for over a day.Her two small children, Jalie, 6, and Erin, 3, were reported missing.
The prime suspect police said at the the time was Burnett’s boyfriend Daniel Callihan.

A statewide Amber Alert was issued Thursday in Louisiana.
US Marshals in Mississippi arrested Daniel Callihan in Jackson, Mississippi, in connection with a homicide on Thursday.

Callihan, it was reported, led authorities to his car, where 6-year-old Jalie Brunett was found alive in a wooded area in Jackson. He then led officers to the body of Erin Brunett, a few yards away.
“Based on the crime scene, what it looks like, this may be the place where there has been some human trafficking done,” Joseph Wade of the Jackson Police Department told reporters at a press conference. “We see cages, small animal cages.”
Jalie was taken to an area hospital for treatment of minor injuries.
Meanwhile, investigators are working to determine cause of death for four-year-old Erin.

“You don’t want to see that as a police chief. You don’t want to see that as a father,” Wade said.
“A coward took this child from her family.”
Callihan led cops to the girls after a bystander saw him for acting suspiciously, according to authorities.
Callie Burnett was missing for over 24 hours before being found “brutally murdered” in the bedroom of her home in Loranger on Thursday, authorities said.
Her children had been reported missing by their father.

The kids were kidnapped sometime before 8 a.m. Wednesday, according to the Louisiana State Police. 
An Amber Alert was issued that afternoon, which said a man was wanted for questioning for a domestic violence incident that resulted in Burnett’s death.
Making his confession on Friday Callihan said: “I would kill me. For what I did? Lethal injection is the easiest thing for me,” Callihan said. “I am not pretending to be crazy. I am certified. I have only been out of the nut house for two weeks.”
Tangipahoa court records show that Callihan has a long criminal history dating back 2008, Callihan has been arrested eight times in the parish alone for a range felonies including burglary, theft, aggravated battery, simple burglary and simple assault.
