It came just months after the 37-year-old had been set upon by an unknown assailant and struck repeatedly with a crowbar in an earlier, interrupted attempt to kill him, Mr Kinsella said.
The crown alleged Shaw’s sometime lover, Adam Gooley, was the assailant in both instances. Mr Kinsella said the prosecution’s circumstantial case contended Shaw had encouraged, facilitated and assisted in the brutal attacks, effectively getting someone else to do the job. The trial, which is expected to run for nine days, continues.
