“You ruined my life!” Gun-toting man, kills co-worker, then shoots himself in Houston – after he was fired from job
A disgruntled Texas trucking company employee shot and killed one of his co-workers and injured another before turning his gun on himself Wednesday, the morning he was fired from the company, officials said.”You ruined my life!” the unidentified, shotgun-toting gunman screamed as he barged into Knight Transportation’s Katy office, Harris County officials told KHOU. The crime happened around 8:45 a.m. across the street from Morton Ranch High School, forcing Katy ISD Police to place nearby schools on lockdown.
The man shot two people — one fatally — inside the building and then killed himself, police said.
Officials have not detailed any relation they had to the shooter, who had been fired just before he began his shooting rampage.
“The suspect was terminated earlier today,” Harris County Sheriff Ron Hickman said at a Wednesday press conference.
Katy ISD says the situation was under control, and classes are returning to normal. Parents were being asked to stay away from the scene as police were still blocking nearby roads.
Knight Transportation offers truck and trailer sales across the country, according to its website.
Two employees who spoke on conditions of annonymity, said the office is small and everybody knows everybody. The employees said the suspect worked at the office for at least two years. They said they knew the man was getting laid off, but they didn’t know why.
Co-workers said the shooter was a quiet man who kept to himself.
