19-year-old Florida State University student, who allegedly stabbed a Florida couple to death before eating part of a man’s face has been released from the hospital and charged with murder.
Austin Harrouff is accused of leaving his family at dinner in a restaurant and killing John Stevens III, 59, and Michelle Mishcon, 53, while high on the bath salt related drug, flakka.
The suspect hads been in a coma since he was arrested for stabbing outside their home in Tequesta earlier this month and beginning to eat parts of Stevens’ face. |
Austin Harrouff, regained consciousness late August, but he was not able to speak to investigators.
According to Martin County Sheriff William Snyder, the teen may have ingested “caustic” chemicals in the couple’s garage. During an appearance on the ‘Dr. Phil’ television show, his dad Florida dentist Dr. Wade Harrouff, was emotional as he told the host, that his son was unable to speak and may have suffered life threatening multiple organ failure including a failing liver and bleeding esophagus.

Snyder said that there is a medical ward at the new facility, but that Harrouf “is coming here for jail and not for therapy.”
Initially speculation was that the suspect, who bragged about having “superpowers” and being “immortal” days before the attack could have been on drugs in the same family as bath salts such as flakka

Cops responding to a 911 call from the couple’s neighbor, who survived the stabbing, found Harrouff in his underwear making animal noises. He was described as having almost super human strength, and tasered by police allegedly bragged to the cops that they would not find any drugs in his system if they tested him. Full toxicology results from the FBI have not been released, though preliminary tests showed an absence of common street drugs such as cocaine and methamphetamine.
Austin Harrouff who could receive the death penalty if convicted, is charged with double homicide in the murdersof Stevens and Mishcon. He also faces an attempted murder charge for stabbing the couple’s neighbor Jeff Fisher, who tried to help the other victims before calling 911.
