Magson denies murder, claims she was acting in ‘self-defense’

Emma-Jayne Magson stabbed James Knight through the heart on her doorsteps following a drunken row at her home. Allegedly, she ‘calmly’ waited 45 minutes to call an ambulance. He was dead before paramedics arrived.
The prosecution claims Magson stabbed Mr Knight, 26, on the doorstep of her home in Leicester following a drunken row in the early hours of March 27 then ‘calmly’ waited 45 minutes to call an ambulance..
Mr Knight’s dying breaths could be heard on a ‘chilling’ 999 call she made 45 minutes later, in which she said he had ‘collapsed’ after a night out – without mentioning the knife wound.
Leicester Crown Court heard that when told an ambulance might be delayed, Magson calmly told them: “No, that’s fine, don’t worry about it.”
A court heard she pretended he had been in a fight and even stopped a Good Samaritan from turning him over because it would have revealed his stab wound.
The prosecuting, Michael Evans, told the jury of six men and six women Magson plunged a steak knife 11.5 centimetres into Mr Knight’s chest in “anger” and not to protect herself.
James Knight was stabbed to death by his girlfriend after a drunken night out
Allegedly, after Magson stabbed Knight on her doorsteps, he collapsed in the street outside her home. He took off his bloodstained T-shirt and told her: “My heart is bleeding.”
She took the T-shirt indoors then went back outside to allegedly downplay the seriousness of his injury by lying to neighbors, including the victim’s brother, Kevin Knight, who lived nearby.
The defendant told them he was drunk and had been fighting with bouncers.
She told them he was drunk and had been fighting with bouncers. Mr Evans said Magson ‘deceived them into believing he wasn’t seriously injured, saying ‘he’s on coke, he’s on drugs, he doesn’t need help’.
He added: ‘Her calmness caused even his own brother to be deceived that he didn’t need help.’
Emma-Jayne Magson, 23, denies murder and claims she acted in self-defense in the fatal stabbing of James Knight.
The prosecution highlighted the callousness displayed by the defendant, stating that Magson ‘deceived them [neighbors] into believing he wasn’t seriously injured, saying ‘he’s on coke, he’s on drugs, he doesn’t need help’.
He added: ‘Her calmness caused even his own brother to be deceived that he didn’t need help.’
According to Evans said James Knight and Emma Magson had been in a rather ‘volatile’ relationship for some time. On the dayhe died, Knight met up with Magson earlier in the evening at the city center. The couple got a taxi to Magson’s home around midnight, but started arguing ‘As soon as they got into the cab’ which led to the cabbie asking them to disembark.
The prosecutor told the court that ‘when James Knight was sitting on one side of the seat and the defendant was lying down on the other side, kicking him’.
Getting out of the cab CCTV cameras captured Knight pushing his girlfriend ‘aggressively’ to the floor, she got up and they continued walking to her house, at one point holding hands.

Knight then phoned a friend saying Magson was ‘kicking off’. That was the last anyone, other than the defendant, heard him say before he was stabbed.
As the 26-year-old father of two lay fatally wounded in the street, he slipped into unconsciousness. But as two residents and his brother came out to help him Magson ‘deceived them into believing he wasn’t seriously injured, saying ‘he’s on coke, he’s on drugs, he doesn’t need help’,’ said Mr Evans.
‘Her calmness caused even his own brother to be deceived that he didn’t need help.’
Magson allegedly stopped a helper from turning him over on the pavement, which would have revealed his chest wound.
