A young woman has been left permanently disfigured after her husband bit her nose off because her family refused to give him a $2245 and a new motorbike.

Married for two years, they broke up after they broke Shiv, kept on demanding a luxury dowry from her family in the form of $2245 (£1,800) cash and a motorbike.
21-year-old Kumari left her husband last year and went to stay with her parents in Lakhimpur Kheri, in northern India. Hoewver, he did not relent in his harassment even after she moved back in with her parents.
“My husband and in-laws tortured me for a dowry since the moment we were married,” Raj said
“They asked for a huge amount and a luxury motorbike , which my family could never afford.
“They used to physically attack me and they wouldn’t stop reminding me of it.
“‘When they stopped me doing my studies I returned home. I refused to go back with him, as I would have missed out on my studies.
“But this is what he did when I refused to return with him.”
Shiv grabbed and lunged at her face as she walked to class on Tuesday.
She was rushed to a medical clinic after the shocking attack.
Emergency Medical Officer Dr Surjit Kumar Singh, at the district hospital said: “The girl has lost a portion of her nose and once she has recovered she will need to be checked by the ENT specialist.
“The wound will take time to heal but her nose will never be normal again and she will not look like she did before. She will need cosmetic surgery but it’s a costly affair.”

Police arrested Mr Kumar, a labourer, at his home on the same day. According to Inspector Ashok Kumar Singh, “The accused has said he did not like the way his wife dressed for her classes.
“But she was wearing formal attire like trousers, shirt and tie when he attacked her.
“He said he attacked her because she refused to return home with him,” Inspector Kumar Singh said.
“We are also investigating the dowry and harassment claims and we will take action accordingly.”
