A Long Island man murdered his wife and injured his daughter before leading police on a wild car chase into Brooklyn, New York, early Friday that ended when his car slammed into a gas station and burst into flames, police source said.
Robert Crumb,  fatally stabbed his wife and wounded his 16-year-old daughter about 12:40 a.m. at their Bethpage, Long Island home before fleeing the scene in his Hyundai sedan. Early Friday, 44-year-old Crumb led cops on a high-speed chase that ended when he crashed into a Brooklyn gas station and his car burst into flames, cops and witnesses said.

 The grisly ordeal began just after midnight, Thursday when the alleged killer, Robert Crumb, stabbed his 41-year-old wife to death and wounded his daughter at their Bethpage home. His  12-year-old son phoned 911 after his father fled their house, located in a quiet suburban neighborhood.  Nassau County cops spotted the 2014 Hyundai parked on a nearby Parkway. The suspect took off as cops approached, leading to a high speed chase that lasted 20 minutes.

Crumb was caught on camera coming out of his burning car and lunging at the officers 

Eventually a cop car rear ended him and the speeding Crumb lost control of his car crashing into a gas pump at a Citgo station. His car then slammed into a 2010 Buick and both cars burst into flames, sources said.
As the gas station was engulfed in flames, Crumb jumped out of his burning car and ttacked the officers, who eventually managed to subdue him, police sources said.

All four responding officers were being treated for smoke inhalation and one suffered a laceration to his head, police said.
Robert Crumb was transported to Brookdale University Hospital with self-inflicted stab wounds to his neck and wrists. His injuries were minor, NYPD officials said.
Crumb’s daughter was taken to a local hospital with non-life threatening wounds.

The 55-year-old driver of the Buick, who’s name was not released, was arrested for driving with a suspended license.
Nassau County Police described the morning’s events as ” a very, very tragic event for the community and the family”.  Speaking during a Friday morning press conference outside the Crumb family’s Bethpage home, county police spokesman, Richard LeBrun, said: “Our hearts and prayers go out to the family and friends.”
