Officers are desperately searching for the six-day-old infant after the 27-year-old woman was found dead in an apartment yesterday. Authorities have described the baby, identified as Sofia Abarca, as ‘missing and endangered’.
They believe she had been missing for a few hours before her mum’s body was found.
Police have no leads on a suspect or Sofia’s whereabouts following the shooting in Wichita in Kansas, US, according to local media.
Sgt. Nikki Woodrow said Laura Abarca-Nogueda  was discovered dead from gunshots by her boyfriend, who is the baby’s father when he came home to the apartment complex at 3:30 p.m.,Thursday.
Authorities think she was shot sometime between noon and 3:30 p.m. They also think the baby, whose name is Sofia Victoria Gonzalez Abarca, had been missing for a few hours before her mother’s body was found.

They believe the attack occurred between noon and 3.30pm at an apartment in the 200 block of North Brunswick, The Wichita Eagle reports.
The mum was found dead by her babys dad after he returned home from work, Police Lt. Todd Ojile said at a news conference.  He added that the baby girl is thought to be in danger.
Police have asked members of the public to contact them with any sightings or tips about the newborn child’s whereabouts.

Wichita police say they would like to speak with the driver of a 1997 purple Cadillac with Kansas license plate 716 GET who is is not considered a suspect in the fatal shooting of a 27-year-old woman in west Wichita or the disappearance of her 6-day-old daughter, Wichita police say. He is someone who has interacted with the victim recently and may be of assistance in the investigation.
Meanwhile police have no suspects in the case. They think the Cadillac is still in Wichita. An Amber Alert has not been issued for Sofia Victoria Gonzalez Abarca because the case does not currently meet the criteria, though Sgt. Nikki Woodrow said that could change.

They have been knocking on doors in the area and speaking to neighbors in a bid to find out information, according to KSN.com.
They have said Sofia’s father, who is believed to be Laura’s boyfriend,is not considered a suspect in the case.
Officers were earlier searching for a purple Cadillac in relation to the incident.
However, they later said the driver had been contacted and police were ‘no longer looking’ for the vehicle.  Also late Thursday, police interviewed numerous family members and friends. They learned the last contact with the mother was just before 1 p.m.
