A 28-year-old medical student was charged, Tuesday with with first-degree murder for allegedly killing and dismembering his parents over the Thanksgiving, when they refused to offer more financial assistance to their son after 10 years of college, including his stint in ‘medical school studying to become a plastic surgeon’.
Joel Michael Guy Jr. of Baton Rouge, La., was arrested Tuesday, in Louisiana on a fugitive warrant in Baton Rouge for allegedly murdering and dismembering his parents during his Thanksgiving visit to their home in Tennessee.

Wednesday, LSU tried to dispel stories that the suspect was their student, Wednesday. Spokesman, Ernie Ballard, said he didn’t have any record of Joel Guy Jr. being enrolled at the university. Asked if Guy Jr. had ever attended LSU, Ballard said, “I have no information to provide about that individual.” However, the Knox County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that Guy Jr. had previously attended Louisiana State University, but reportedly withdrew last year.

According to the Knoxville sheriff’s office, the unemployed Guy Jr. traveled from his home in Baton Rouge, Louisiana and visited his parents for the Thanksgiving holiday. He allegedly was in a financial bind and met with his parents to ask for assistance.
However, Joel Guy Sr., who recently been laid off from an engineering job in Knoxville, and his wife Lisa le were planning on retiring to the small town in mountainous northeast Tennessee.

The couple had already completed the sale of their home before their deaths, according to sources in the sheriff’s office, one of the new owners arrived at the house Monday evening as deputies processed the crime scene.
Although Guy Jr. has so far refused to speak and his motive in killing his parents remains unclear, the authorities said the parents, who had been paying many of their son’s bills while he lived in Baton Rouge were about to turn off the financial spigot. They were “in the process of encouraging him to fend for himself” and planned on talking to him over Thanksgiving about cutting off some of their support.
Although a motive is yet to be established, authorities are working the angle that his parents were going to cut him off financially and had planned to talk to him over Thanksgiving about the changes in the financial relationship, while he came down hoping to get more financial aid from them.
Guy was reportedly studying to be a plastic surgeon. He, ostensibly had been in college for nine years while his parents supported him for nearly a decade.
The couple, both engineers, were ready to retire and stop providing him with money, according to the Kingsport Time-News.
Investiagtors are also looking into whether there was a life insurance policy he could collect, but they do not believe that was the case at this time, WBIR-TV reported.

The sister told detectives that nothing seemed unusual during the holiday, MacLean said. The women said they expected their brother to head back to Louisiana on Friday and were surprised he stuck around through the weekend.

Following the slaying, the sheriff’s office spoke with his sisters but they told investigators their brother did not give them any indication that anything was wrong.
They also reportedly told authorities their brother was expected to head back to Louisiana on Friday and that they were surprised he stayed through the weekend.
His parents were last seen alive on Friday when they left their home, which they had just sold, to take a watercraft to their new house in Surgoinsville, authorities said.
Investigators spent much of Monday going through the couple’s home after they were told the mother did not show up for work.
‘Both suffered multiple, vicious stab wounds as well as dismemberment,’ sheriff’s MacLean told WBIR-TV.
He called the crime scene ‘gruesome.’

Neighbors in the suspect’s Baton Rouge apartment complex described Joel Guy Jr. variously as reclusive, quiet and rarely communicating with neighbors. MacLean, of the Knox County Sheriff’s Office, said Guy Jr. lived in the apartment alone.
“He never really acknowledged us,” said Dual Yelverton, who lives in the apartment next to Guy’s “He’d take his trash out and that’s it.”
