A Texas high school teacher who pled guilty last month to sex acts with a pair of 17-year-old students from the high school where she was employed, was placed on a 10-year probation. She will also serve 200 hours of required community service.
30-year-old Haeli Noelle Wey, a former teacher at Westlake High School, faced felony charges for having an improper relationship with the two students, the Travis County sheriff’s office had announced on Dec. 17, 2015.
According to police, one of the 17-year-old victim’s told authorities that he had sex with Wey about 10 times between August and September. She also allegedly sent him pictures of herself with little clothing. Sex between the student and Wey stopped when he discovered she went on a hike with another student, during which she reportedly kissed and had a sexual encounter with another 17-year-old student.Haeli Noelle Wey4.png
The then 28-year-old math teacher, had intercourse with one of the male students more than 10 times over the course of two months. The victim said the relationship first became physical in summer 2015 during his family’s ministry trip to Africa. Wey participated in the trip.
“The victim said while in Africa his relationship with Ms Wey become more personal and on a deeper level,” a police report said. “[He] stated while in Africa, their relationship became physical.”
Later that summer, Wey also became inappropriately involved with another student during a camp hike, when she suggested to bringing a hammock along for their walk.

With the sentencing, Friday the disgraced high school teacher is not expected to serve hard time for having sex with the two teenage boys. The legal age of consent in Texas is 17, but state law prohibits teachers from having sex with students.

According to KEYE, prosecutors themselves recommended the 10 year deferred adjudication probation sentence for the ex-teacher, which would mean she wouldn’t have to spend a day behind bars or register as a sex offender.
The first victim told police they met at a “student ministry program” in June. Later  that summer she accompanied his family on a trip to Africa. He allegedly told cops he had sex with the disgraced teacher more than 10 times after the trip, but stopped the relationship after he heard a rumor that she went on a hike with the second alleged victim.
He later told his father about the relationship. His parents contacted authorities.
“There were a lot of rumors at school about [Wey and the second victim] ‘hooking up,’” a detective wrote, adding that the teen at first denied the rumors, which were fueled by alleged Instagram messages between the two.
The second victim told cops Wey invited him for a hike at the Commons Ford Park, where she told the boy she knew of “some secluded hiking trails,” according to court documents.

At some point during the stroll, Wey “took out a hammock and start kissing the boy.
The second victim said the hike, lasted about two hours, before they allegedly went to a secluded area and had sexual contact.

Asked by a detective if he expected to have sex on the hike, the boy allegedly said yes, and added, “a teacher just doesn’t hang out with a student to hang out.”
The affidavits also allege that Wey tried to keep the relationships under wraps, at one point instructing the second victim on how to erase their conversations.
“Delete our convo (sic) from Instagram please and don’t let anyone get a hold of ur (sic) phone,” she allegedly texted the victim.
And to the first victim, after finding out about the police report, she allegedly asked, “What did you tell them?” And, “Why did you tell them?”
Wey, who had taught math at the school for two years, was busted when the first victim told his father about what had happened.
The high school fired Wey immediately upon being notified.
“Inappropriate communication and relationships involving teachers and students is unacceptable and, as in this case, against the law,” school superintendent Tom Leonard wrote in a letter to parents at the time.
“We trust that the justice system, with our continued cooperation, will reinforce this message.”
The crime and punishment has been a sharp contrast to the 10 year jail time handed 24-year-old Alexandria Vera, a former Houston, Texas  middle school teacher was arrested after admitting she was in a sexual relationship with one of her 13-year-old student.

Haeli Wey will not serve jail time or have to register as a sex offender. For defense attorney, Larry Sauer, the punishment was “reasonable,”  Sauer said.
“Basically, as long as she completes everything without any problems then the case will be dismissed and she will never have been convicted of a felony,” Sauer said in a statement.
Several community members have protested the court’s ‘soft’ punishment for the teacher.
One wrote, “I’m disappointed. She should be a registered sex offender and definitely spend time in prison.”
Another added that the trial was sexist, and cited that a male teacher involved in the same situation would be treated much more harshly.
Wey has since voluntarily surrendered her teaching certificate.
The Travis County District Attorney’s office said if Wey fails to properly follow through with her probation sentence, she could serve up to 20 years behind bars.
