Friends and family of an openly gay 53-year-old man beaten to death in Florida are disputing a suspect’s claim that he masturbated in front of her.
Social worker William “Bill” Denham Jr. was a small-framed, openly gay, 53-year-old pacifist, they say.
They stated that it is absurd that a woman accused in Denham’s death would tell police he had walked into a back yard and masturbated in front of her.
Jadian Zeiders, claimed that she and two men hit William Denham Jr. in self-defense, but those close to Denham say that she could not have been telling the truth about what happened on Jan. 14 in Tampa.
“He never would have attacked anyone,” sister Maureen Tourigian told the Tampa Bay Times. “Anyone who knows him knows that, and that he never would expose himself to a woman. He wasn’t interested.”
Zeiders told authorities that a man came into the yard and pleasured himself “in front of her,” Tampa cops said in an arrest affidavit.
She said she hid in the laundry room and told the two men what happened when they returned. She said she later pointed out Denham to the men as the three of them were getting into a car.
Zeiders, 27, was arrested late Friday and charged with second-degree murder in Denham’s beating death Jan. 14.

The suspect claims Denham tried to run off, but was caught by the two men. She told police the victim attacked the two men when they tried to “detain” him.
She said the two men struck him “several times” to defend themselves.
She then claimed to police that a black man “came out of the bushes” and kicked Denham in the head before rifling through his pants pockets.
Zeiders told cops that one of the other men with her then beat Denham to death.
Cops say the two men told a witness that they fatally beat Denham because Zeiders claimed Denham had raped her in the backyard. The alleged accomplices have not been identified by police as suspects.
Tampa police said that the department is not able to confirm anything in Zeiders’ account of what led to Denham’s death. Zeiders was arrested and charged with second-degree murder on Friday.
Denham’s longtime partner, Dan Kane, told the Tampa Bay Times, which first reported the arrest, that he believes Zeiders made up the whole story to protect herself and the two men. Kane believes the three of them wanted to rob Denham, and attacked him when they did not find much money on him.
“I don’t think they need the death penalty, but they do need to be in prison for a long time to think about what they did,” Kane told the newspaper. “They’re a danger to the community and need to be off the street.”
Zeiders who records show she was arrested in November on charges of heroin possession and failing to appear in court for a driving infraction, remained in the Hillsborough County jail Tuesday in lieu of $100,000 bail
