Two Texas teenagers have been arrested following the drowning of their friend when the trio went swimming a lake near Dallas. Not did the fail to seek help or report the incident, they allegedly tossed his belongings and deleted evidence from his cell phone.
High school student Daniel Erving, 18, a swim team member and honor roll student, drowned on April 13, after he and two friends jumped off a railroad bridge into Lake Ray Hubbard in the eastern suburbs of Dallas.
His body was recovered from the lake by Rowlett Police Department on April 17, four days after he was reported missing.
A medical examiner later determined he died from an accidental drowning.
However, detectives from the Dallas Police Department accused Lucas Roper, 19, and the other teen,a juvenile aged 17, of being present when Erving drowned, but failing to report the incident, then later discarding some of his belongings.

According to police, detectives determined that Roper and the juvenile were present when Erving drowned but failed to report the incident and later discarded some of his belongings. Lucas Roper, 19, and a juvenile suspect, 17, allegedly failed to report their friend’s death and later disposed of his clothing and cellphone, according to the Dallas Police Department.
The pair were arrested on charges of tampering with physical evidence, a third-degree felony, police announced on Monday.
After Erving drowned, Roper and the juvenile fled the scene, and Roper allegedly threw their friend’s clothing into a tree line near the bridge, according to an arrest affidavit seen by the outlet.

The juvenile also threw the cellphone from the vehicle on Roper’s orders, the affidavit alleges.
Roper allegedly deleted communications with Erving from his cellphone because he “was aware that there would be an investigation into the death Daniel Erving and he did not want to get into trouble,” the affidavit states.
Roper allegedly admitted he “panicked” after Erving drowned during a voluntary interview with detectives.
