The dogged determination of a female body builder mom to globe trot has landed her in police trouble and temporary loss of the custody of her kids.
Police in Johnston, Iowa acting on a tip about underage children left unsupervised, found Erin Lee Macke’s four kids had been abandoned to their own devices a day after the 30-year-old single mother departed the country for a European vacation.
Erin Lee Macke was arrested on Thursday for allegedly abandoning her four young children home alone while she traveled to Germany for an 12-day junket.
According to a press release, police were called to Macke’s home on Sept. 21 following a report that children had been left without adult supervision.
Authorities said “Investigators confirmed that Macke had made no arrangements to provide adult supervision or care for the children while she was away”.
When they conducted a welfare check on the house, they found Macke’s 12-year-old twins, a 6-year-old and a 7-year-old home alone, and an unloaded handgun left on top of the dresser in the master bedroom.
Police said the day before they were called, the 30-year-old mother had left the country to go to Germany and wasn’t expected to come back until Oct. 1.

Police called the children’s mother in Germany. Macke admitted that she left her kids alone when all of her babysitting arrangements fell through, while confirming she would not be returning until October 1.
Despite the Police order her to come home, the vacationing mother only cut her trip short by four days. Showing no apparent remorse for her dereliction Macke advertised the highlights of her junket a day before returning home. She posted several pictures of her trip to Instagram .
She was taken into custody after returning to the U.S. Thursday. She faces four counts of child endangerment and one count of making a firearm available to a person under the age of 21.

The Iowa Department of Human Services came to get the children, while police called Macke and ordered her to return home from Germany.
Macke was arrested on arrived back in the U.S. Thursday and faces four counts of child endangerment and one count of making a firearm available to a person under the age of 21.
She’s currently being held at the Polk County Jail on $9,000 bond, while her children were placed in the care of extended family members.
