A witness said she saw Amelia DiStasio climb out the window and run off. She was taken into custody later that day and remains held with bond set at $400,000.
One resident told police she heard the boy yelling, “Please mommy, stop! I won’t do it again!” the night before the brutal murder, according to the criminal complaint.
A search of the suspect’s phone also revealed she searched “how do canabals die”, and “how to kill a canabal”, on google shortly before the homicide.
She reportedly visited a message board for a horror survival game that suggested fighting cannibals with fire. Other posts mentioned that cannibals “like to bath in oil”, which the detective noted was significant given the bottle of canola oil recovered in the bathroom.

An autopsy revealed seven belts were used to secure Antonio Detasio’s hands and arms to his sides, and a plastic bag had been placed over his head — pulled tight and knotted at the back of his head. The autopsy revealed “significant charring” to his skin, and thermal injuries “to the majority of his body.” His death was ruled a homicide.
The witness who reported seeing Distasio jump from the windowsill of the apartment building on September 28, noted that she looked “frazzled,” according to the complaint.
The boy’s grandfather Ralph DiStasio remembered Antonio as a bright, happy and autistic boy.
“You’re all gonna be down on his mother. But she loved him. Took him everywhere with her. Tried to get him treatment. And she’s now under arrest. I don’t know what happened, only that I’ve lost both my grandson and a daughter,” he wrote in a Facebook post.
