The footage went viral on Tuesday after reappearing online but Canales was remorseless and appeared to revel in her newfound infamy.
She shared screenshots of news articles about it on Instagram and Snapchat and said she ‘only’ took $5 from the that which she claims to have returned later.
Before getting into his car, she posed in her underwear in Crown Heights, Brooklyn, for two Instagram pictures.  The young girl is believed to have grown up in Central Islip, New York.

On Tuesday, Canales tried to make light of the crime by sharing memes on social media including one with her hand in the cookie jar. Another showed her still wearing the mustard-colored skirt she had on in the Uber.

Canales was filmed coyly glancing towards the driver’s camera before making off with the money in August. By the time he realized it was gone, she and her two friends had left the car.
Her two friends in the car seemed unaware of her plot and did not respond as she snatched the money before getting out.
On the same day, the boy in their group however taunted police by sitting in front of a line-up of cops sitting on a locked-up bicycle. He captioned the image: ‘Who’s bike?’ [sic].
According to Mohammed H. Bhuiyan’, the affected driver, Uber dropped the matter when they contacted Canales and she denied ever stealing the money.
They told him take the matter to police if he wanted to pursue it further but the man says he was too busy.
Uber has since contacted him again to offer him more support and have banned Canales from using the app.

Bhuiyan notices his empty tip jar for the first time. He looked as though he was about to chase after the group but in the end gave up. He was advised by Uber to open a ‘formal investigation’

Gabita ‘Fagin’ Canales denied her crime when Uber called her to address the issue. Tuesday posted an online an admittance of the theft, which claims amounted to only $5. She has returned the stolen money to the Uber driver, she claimed.
Canales is reortedly an avid social media user who regularly shares photographs of herself wearing few clothes and drinking alcoholic drinks from the bottle

‘What’s been shown has no place on our app and the rider’s access to the app has been removed,’ a spokesman for Uber said.

When Mohammed H. Bhuiyan contacted Uber, they responded with: “We understand your frustration with this experience. We’ve attempted to contact the rider by phone and email, but haven’t been able to resolve this issue.
“The rider responded to us and advised us that she didn’t steal your cash from the tip jar. If you believe the rider has your cash as captured from your dash cam and is refusing to return it, you may want to initiate a formal investigation via the police.”
Canale’s Uber account has now been deactivated and she will no longer be able to use the service.
The video was first published on YouTube in August but since gained attention online this weekend, leading to the identity of the thief being revealed, as well as, her online outburst.
It is not clear whether or not police have investigated it.
