An argument between a man and his pregnant girlfriend ended in homicide Thursday on New York’s Staten Island when he shot her to death, police said.
43-year-old Keith Jackson, has been charged with murder and illegal weapons possession charges after Bridget Shenk, 35, was found dead just after midnight in her second-floor apartment on Trantor Place near Walker St. in Port Richmond.
Neighbors called authorities after hearing shouting and the gunshot.
“It was loud,” a 57-year-old neighbor said.
“We knew what it was. The cops rushed right in there.
”The neighbor’s daughter called 911. She said she has known Shenk since she was 8 years old, and her kids went to the same elementary school.

Police arrested Jackson at the scene and found a .40-caliber handgun and a .40-caliber shell casing at the scene.
Cops had been called three previous times to the couple’s home for domestic arguments, sources said.
The neighbor said Shenk, who she’d chatted with Wednesday at around 9 p.m., was excited to become a mom.
“We were just talking to each other in the hallway,” Ivory said. “We were just talking about the gas and I asked her how’s the baby coming along. She was very happy about it.”

She said Shenk was just starting to show.
The neighbor said Shenk rarely spoke about Jackson. He had been staying with Shenk for about a year.
“I’ve seen him,” she said. “He just looked spacey.”
She said there was “no reason” for him to kill Shenk.
“I hate him now,” she said. “He needs to be away for life.”
The neighbor said her son called Shenk’s brother to tell him what happened. “He was distraught,” she said. “That’s such a tragedy that happened to her. It’s just such a loss.”
The victim’s mother, Dorothy McLeod, told PIX11 News that her daughter had dreamed of having a child, but her boyfriend was less excited.
“She always wanted a child. He didn’t want a child,” McLeod said. “When they found out she was pregnant, she was so excited. I went with her on Monday to the doctor.”
McLeod said her daughter and Jackson previously discussed separating. Shenk “was trying to establish a better life for her child” and asked Jackson to move out, McLeod said.
