Oleg Deripaska sued Nastya Rybka in absentia and won compensation in a  courtroom in the Krasnodar region of Russian while the escort is incarcerated Thousands of miles away in Thailand

A Russian oligarch who worked with Paul Manafort has won a suit against the Instagram model and sex trainer who says she has information about meddling in the 2016 election.

Oleg Deripaska, a metals magnate who came under U.S. sanctions earlier this year, filed suit against Nastya Rybka after she shared videos of him, Deputy Prime Minister Sergei Prikhodko and herself on a yacht off the coast of Norway in August 2016.

The video from Rybka, who has written a book about seducing billionaires, went largely unnoticed until Russian anti-corruption activist Alexei Navalny spotted Prikhodko in it and heard him and Deripaska discussing a U.S. State Department employee.

Navalny connected the video to the idea that Deripaska, with whom Trump’s one-time campaign manager Manafort has worked extensively and borrowed money, could have served as a link between the future president’s campaign and the Kremlin.

Deripaska filed suit as the Navalny video made it into the mainstream, though the case received international attention as Rybka, a Belarusian whose real name is Anastasia Vashukevich and whose pseudonym means fish, was caught by police in Thailand.

She was charged for illegally organizing a sex training workshop in the tourist city of Pattaya, but made a desperate plea to the U.S. Embassy for help by saying that she would talk to investigators about President Trump and Russian election meddling in exchange for her freedom.

Rybka, who remains in Thailand along with alleged co-conspirator Alexei Leslie, real name Alexander Kirillov, said that she feared being deported back to Russia.

Neither she, nor Leslie, who was also sued by Deripaska, were present in the courtroom for the oligarch’s case in the Krasnodar region, where he maintains a home and is seen as having a large influence, news agency Interfax reported.

Deripaska’s suit, based on claims that his privacy was invaded and closed to the public, had asked for 2 million rubles ($32,000) but ended up only receiving 500,000 ($8,000).

Rybka and Leslie, who removed the videos early on in the suit amid worries that Russian would block Instagram, have 30 days to appeal.

Manafort is charged with money laundering by Special Counsel Robert Mueller, and his relationship with Deripaska, who denies any wrongdoing, is believed to be a focus of investigators.
