Esteysi Izazaga Sanchez was sentenced Wednesday to 15 years to life in prison by a court in Vista, California
Sanchez, 31, was convicted in April of second-degree murder and other charges after she was found guilty in April of killing Jack Tenhulzen when she struck him with her car, June 26, 2016 on a sidewalk in Oceanside, California
69-year-old Tenhulzen was knocked out of his pants and shoes and one foot was severed, but a highly intoxicated Sanchez drove a mile with Tenhulzen’s body lodged in windshield
She then walked away from car and into her house with his body still there
Unlicensed driver “Stacy” Sanchez, who went on an all-night drinking bender before she got behind the wheel car of claimed she did not know the dangers of drinking and driving
Her blood alcohol was double the legal limit
Jury found Sanchez guilty of murder, gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated and hit and run with death or permanent serious injury
She sobbed in court and apologized for the death.
‘Jack Tenhulzen, my uncle, the man that you murdered, was loved,’ said the victim’s niece, Lisa Francisco, who spoke in court.
‘He wasn’t a faceless person. I loved my Uncle Jack.’
Sanchez began sobbing uncontrollably, prompting the judge to call a lengthy recess.
