Fighting back tears, a neighbor on Monday recalled watching a mom get stabbed to death inside their Bronx apartment building.
“There was so much blood,” the witness said, recalling the last moments of 29-year-old Mercy Capacette’s life.
Capacette was attacked by her bonkers boyfriend about 7:35 p.m Sunday night on the building’s fourth floor, a story below the victim’s apartment, according to neighbors and police.
“I saw when he stabbed her,” the witness said. “Someone said to turn her over but I could tell she wasn’t breathing. She was already gone. He was just stabbing and stabbing.”
“He must have been on something,” the distraught neighbor added. “I’m not doing too good.”
The witness said the boyfriend was a known troublemaker, arguing “with other people in the building, smoking dust (PCP).”
Just as shaken was Evelyn Rosario, another neighbor inside the victim’s building on Ellis Ave. near the Cross Bronx Expressway in Parkchester.
“I started screaming, crying,” she said. “I haven’t slept. I couldn’t even make it to work today.”
The victim was rushed to Jacobi Medical Center but could not be saved. The building’s lobby and hallways on the fourth floor and below all remained splattered with the victim’s blood Monday.
Twenty minutes before he allegedly killed Capacette, the boyfriend attacked his 60-year-old father and 34-year-old brother inside the family’s home on Gleason Ave. near Olmstead Ave., less than half a mile from Capacette’s home, according to police.
