After the two had a brief discussion, police say Reyes left, returned with a stolen .44 caliber Smith and Wesson, and shot Mass six times
Walker, after watching Reyes gun down his girlfriend, got in his car and mowed down the shooter
He then beat him and held him at the scene until police arrived
Reyes has been charged with murder, manslaughter and weapons possession

A New York construction flagger was shot dead by a man who secretly fancied her, the ‘exploded’ when she introduced him to her boyfriend, midweek.
Lizbeth Mass, 52, was shot dead on Wednesday by Jose Reyes, a handyman who had become friendly with her and would sometimes bring her lunch.
She worked at City Island in the Bronx and was beloved by its residents. Mass from Brooklyn but had worked at the site for years.
The local handyman accused of killing Mass, a friendly construction worker nicknamed “the mayor of City Island” is now charged with murder, manslaughter, and weapons offenses.
Police say the suspect, 66-year-old Jose Everaldo Reyes, frequently biked around the victim’s Bronx construction site and brought sandwiches to Mass.
They’d become friends but on Wednesday, he shot her six times after she introduced him to her boyfriend, Dwayne Walker.

On Wednesday, after the two had a brief discussion Reyes left, returned with a stolen .44 caliber Smith and Wesson, and shot Mass six times, police said.
In the chaotic aftermath of the killing, Walker got into his car and mowed down Reyes. He hopped out of the vehicle and it rolled back, hitting Reyes again, while no one was driving.
Walker then grabbed Reyes and pushed him over the hood of the car, beating him repeatedly. Walker then held the killer down until police arrived.
Reyes was taken into custody. Walker was allowed to go free.
On Thursday night, he told The New York Daily News that Mass had mentioned her killer to him before.







‘She befriended him. She mentioned him. She said this guy would bring her lunch sometimes.
‘I spoke to this guy and he seemed OK,’ he said. He said Reyes ‘exploded’ when he learned he was her boyfriend.
‘When my sister presented her boyfriend to him he changed his look. I think he didn’t know she had a boyfriend,’ the victim’s brother Raul said.
He added that his sister was friendly towards everyone she met and that the man likely had the wrong impression.
It’s unclear how long Walker and Mass had been together.
‘I’m all right. She didn’t deserve this. Nobody deserves this,’ he said.
Reyes was taken into custody at the scene.
He remains hospitalized after the victim’s boyfriend, Dwayne Walker who was visiting her at lunchtime, ran him down with his car and held him until police arrived.
