Brazil Country Music singer Joao Malachias is in police custody, for the murder of his ex, found dead and burned in the city of Araras in the southeastern Brazilian state of Säo Paulo 

Malachias, 40, on the run after he was flagged as prime suspect in the murder of his estranged girlfriend was arrested Sunday at a gas station in Ribeirão Preto, a city in Säo Paulo

Cops allege Malachias murdered Bruna Angleri, also 40, on September 27 at her condominium in the São Paulo city of Araras.

Angleri, a dentist and mother of a six-year-old boy, suffered severed blunt force trauma to head and body, most likely was set on fire on her bed after she was already dead, police said

An arrest warrant was issued for Malachias on Friday, but he escaped after leading the police on a high-speed chase

A country music singer has been arrested in Brazil for allegedly killing his former girlfriend, whose body was found burned in her home last month.
João Malachias, 40, was taken into custody Sunday at a gas station in Ribeirão Preto, a city in the southeastern state of São Paulo. Police said he was attempting to flee to the nearby state of Goiás.
Police allege Malachias murdered Bruna Angleri, also 40, on September 27 at her condominium in the São Paulo city of Araras.
Angleri, who worked as a dentist, was repeatedly beaten in the face and most likely set on fire on her bed after she was already dead, Araras police chief Tabajara Zuliani said.

Friends and family attended a vigil for Bruna Angleri, in Araras 

Angleri’s mother told the Military Police she became concerned after not hearing from her daughter, went to the apartment and found her dead in her bed.
‘Her face was completely deformed by fractures. She had a fractured rib,’ Zuliani said, as quoted by Brazilian news outlet G1.
Malachias had a court order issued against him that prohibited contact with Angleri, a single mother.
He was interviewed by authorities following the incident and claimed his innocence and was released.
Authorities are waiting on the results of an autopsy to determine if she was still alive when she was set on fire.
The military police obtained a warrant Friday and nearly arrested him. But he led the on a high-speed chase along the highway and abandoned the vehicle before escaping through a sugar cane field.

Authorities Police said Angleri, a dentist and mother-of-one, suffered fractures to the face and ribs. Police believe she was set on fire in her bed when she was already dead, but are waiting on autopsy results to determine if she was burnt dead or alive

Shortly after the pursuit, Malachias took to Facebook to defend his actions because he was felt his life was at risk.
‘I found out about the arrest (warrant) through social media, as not even my lawyer has access to it,’ his now-deleted message read. ‘When I saw the police signaling, I became desperate, scared and ran away, as there were so many posts, comments and messages. So, if there really is a (warrant) for arrest, I will turn myself in and I will continue to help in everything to solve this case.’

Malachias released an album in March

Bruna Angleri leaves behind a six-year-old son from a previous relationship, had a degree in dentistry and psychology. She held the position of postgraduate coordinator at São Leopoldo Mandic, at the Araras unit.
She dated Malachias for about seven months before she ended the relationship, a decision that her family says he failed to accept.
While the protective order against the singer prohibited him from approaching Bruna, in August of this year he invaded the home in a high-end condominium complex located in the Industrial District, assaulted her and caused property damage.
Angleri leaves behind a six-year-old son from a previous relationship. 
Malachias has been singing for seven years, performing at local bars and private events in Araras and other cities in São Paulo. He released an album in March.
